Just curious on how far a AR 308 should throw brass (in general)?

I have a couple MA TEN builds and was wondering how to judge this?
I realize it makes little difference if everything works reliably.
Mostly looking for a fine tuning guide.

my 223 goes at the 3 o'clock and about 5-6 feet. my 308 does more about 2 o'clock and 4 feet. my friends DD 223 does more 4-5 o'clock and 6 feet.

Just remember if you dont have a brass deflector it will toss most answers right out. My AR will toss the brass 4-5ft at about 5oclock

I can tell you on my MaTen build in 6.5CM that is was waaaaayyyyyyy over gassed and threw the brass 10-12'.

Once I adjusted the gas (JP adjustable) block to almost off, it cycled much more smoothly and a lot less violently. Brass now ends up about 4' away at about the 3-4 o'clock position.

It is amazing how much most AR's...large frame or small....are over gassed. I understand this is so they will reliably function with the widest variety of ammo, etc. But being able to tune/regulate the gass really smoothes out the cycling. I personally will never own a AR without a adjustable gas block.

Take care,Stan

My .308 throws brass about 8-9 feet at about 5 o'clock and my .260 throws them about 1-2 o'clock and less than two feet away. I was worried it would be undergassed but no problems yet.
