For the folks that own or have extensively used the Trijicon Accupoint 5-20x50, can anyone comment on the long tern reliability of the turrets? I'm looking for those that do a lot of dialing. Are the adjustments still precise? Is the scope still holding up like new? ...etc. I've read tons of reviews about this scope, but haven't found anything too recent that relates to extended use. I'm looking at this scope for a utility/back-up role that can replace any of my hunting, target, or load development needs if a scope craps the bed.

I haven't observed many used for sale on this site lately. Are they being held on to? Or are they not being purchased initially?

And as long as we are on the subject, has anyone used this scope with NV in front?

Thoughts and opinions about this scope please.

Haven't used one of their scopes, but their reflex sights are bad ass. Over 40 people at Optics Planet raved about these scopes, but they were of course new, but clarity and illuminated dot seemed perfect for what you are looking for and price was around $1000. I suspect they would be best in ranges to < 1000 yards.

sib, Thanks for the response. I didn't think the reflex sights had magnification to them. If the quality of the Accupoint is the same as the ACOG and Reflex, then I'm sure there won't be any worries. My eyes are 20/20, but I like using more magnification for load developement or steel at 600 yards.

Re: Long term reliability of Accupoint 5-20 turrets???

My hunting partner has the 5-20 with green dot and loves it. I think he has had it for 2 years now and has had zero problems with it. I've played with it and I hope to get the 3-9 for the wife's gun. It clicks nice, he ordered the duplex dot and has his turret marked up for yardage and loves it. He has put the scope through hell in the winter and its still doing amazing. The only thing bad I have ever heard him say is that it is that its a little heavy for a carry gun. The glass quality is amazing, the low light quality will blow your mind. For what your getting on the 5-20 I think the price is more than fair.

Re: Long term reliability of Accupoint 5-20 turrets???

The Accupoint series is a really nice line of scopes. I've seen a couple models including the 5-20. An acquaintance runs one on a rock river 308 (who shoots often) and has had it for some time now (has had nothing but the highest regards for it). The glass is very nice...among the best in its price range as far as I'm concerned.

I believe aside from the shorter fiber optic/tritium warranty there is a limited lifetime warranty on the rest of the scope from defects of craftsmanship and the like that is not transferable (not positive). Not suggesting that you will necessarily need it, but it might be something to look further into. If you're buying used, might want to check if it has already been registered, if that is in fact the case.

With that said, I have not heard any issues with their turrets becoming mushy or no longer repeatable. Although not the most tactile I've felt, I did not feel they were inadequate. If you're enthused with all other aspects of it, I personally wouldn't let that be a detternt.

Good luck-

Re: Long term reliability of Accupoint 5-20 turrets???

Thanks for the comments gents. I have one NF 5.5-22 on a John Whidden custom build, and a bunch of Leupold and Zeiss for hunting. I wouldn't expect S&B quality from the Accupoint, but would at least have something close enough to get by as far as glass (Leupy and Zeiss) and turrets (NF) if one scope went down. I'm also getting tired of taking the NF off the 300WM for load development on other rifles. Thanks for the heads up on the warranty. I'll definitely check into that.

More comments welcome, good or bad.

Re: Long term reliability of Accupoint 5-20 turrets???

I have not ran the 5-20 but have used the 3-9s a bunch with zero issues and am hunting with the 2.5-10x56 on my 280 Ackley.
It is a T&E scope that has obviously had some use and it tracked fine at the range a few weeks ago.

Re: Long term reliability of Accupoint 5-20 turrets???

Can anyone comment on the eye box please? How finicky is the eye box on 5x and 20x? Is it as forgiving as the Zeiss and NF? Ive looked through a March and the eye box got real finicky when the magnification got cranked up. Thanks again in advance.
