Got a few video clips and will try to edit and post what I can on here. Didn't get any of Toms side, if anyone has any of it send them to me and I'll try to get them added or you can add them to this thread. Don't forget any pictures also.

Re: !!! RESULTS !!! Rayners Fall Sniper Match 2012

Good shooting to the 3 Dave's! Looks like I got a lot of work to do before April.

Re: !!! RESULTS !!! Rayners Fall Sniper Match 2012

Dustin, keep in touch. We're wanting to shoot it in the Spring also. We'll have to get out for a couple practice sessions together. Chris is anxious about shooting it. Just can't see any way to use the Pistol though.... oh well.

Re: !!! RESULTS !!! Rayners Fall Sniper Match 2012

greetings everyone. not sure this is the correct area, but since this subject is something I am interested in I am going to ask.

I have seen some results on the Rayners long rang matchs and the sniper match. I see most are shooting a 6 mm or 6.5mm varinat ( 260 , 6BR, 6-284 etc), but I do see a couple of people shooting 223. Can someone tell me if these are through an AR or bolt gun, and what bullet weights they might be running??
thanks in advance for the help

Re: !!! RESULTS !!! Rayners Fall Sniper Match 2012

An AR or bolt will be fine. Run 69 gr or heavier.

Re: !!! RESULTS !!! Rayners Fall Sniper Match 2012

yeah my AR with a 20" 1-9 and either the 68 / 75 hornaday BTHP or the 73 bergers is what I was thinking . In all the results I looked at I only saw 1 or 2 people shooting a 223, so I was curious if they were bolt guns shooting the heavier VLD's, or there were people shooting the AR's with 77 or smaller at mag length

thanks

Re: !!! RESULTS !!! Rayners Fall Sniper Match 2012

My buddy Dale was trying out a Savage 223 bolt gun shooting 75gr Amax and was doing fine to 1000. He did get a score over 300 this year with his 223, so far the only one to do it with a 223. Even the days with some wind he was still doing surprisingly well.

I tried some WW 55gr in my AR and did quite well to 500 but wasn't trying to get settings any farther. Got to go with the heavier bullet for 1000 but another way of thinking about it is to get all hits on the 10 pointers and a few higher value targets up close up thru 700 yards and even if you blank the 900 and 990/1000 yard targets you can still get well into the 300 score range which a lot of shooters still strive for. Don't abandon the 223 based on not hitting the farthest couple of targets.

I'm still thinking about the AR in 223 for the Sniper Match next spring, think it might do the job fine.

Re: !!! RESULTS !!! Rayners Fall Sniper Match 2012

I'm just awaiting my barrel and ill have a 6.5grendel piston AR put together for next year. On the monthly shoots is there a semi auto class or is it just optic vs. Iron? I forget.

Thanks,
Merritt

Re: !!! RESULTS !!! Rayners Fall Sniper Match 2012

yes I have heard great things about the 75 g AMAX and it has a great BC for the .224 class. I believe , I can get the 75g BTHP to stabalize and it is a .395 I believe which is about as close as I think I will get to the AMAX unless I try trimming and pointing the BTHP's but I am not sure how much that will add. My goal is to get set up and hopefully shoot the February match as my first with my 223 AR , and see how I do as I really have never shot past 200 yards so it will be an experience I am sure. I am also looking for a grendel upper but seeing as they all seem to be out of stock, and the fact I have not made up my mind on which one I want, I do not see that being a viable option util next summer at least.

thanks for the information I appreciate it .

Optic or iron for rifles and a seperate handgun class. Run what you brung within the appropriate class.
