    Hi lads,

    I've got a mate who just got an AI AX with fixed stock (legal issues with folding stocks being imported) and now wants to get the hinge assembly and convert it to a folder. According to the schematics this is possible for the AI AX rifle.

    I have an AICS AX 1.5 stock and want to do the same also, has anyone here converted a fixed AICS AX to a folder?

    I've taken the skins off and the chassis has been pinned to the receiver group area, it looks removable but may be epoxied in there also. No doubt some cutting would be involved to shorten the chassis rear end to accommodate the hinge assembly and the skins would be trimmed to the line for the same reason.

    Any thoughts?

    Never heard of anyone doing it. On actual AI rifles they've send them to AI to have it done...., never heard of anyone doing it on the CS side of it though.

    It is possible to convert from fixed to folding stocks in AI rifles and AICS. We have converted well over 500 rifles at the factory, all AW. We have also sold pars to military and law enforcement groups along with details of how to complete the work but that was for groups who had 30- 60 rifles, again all AW's.
    We have never converted AICS but it is just the same as an AW.
    We will carry out a conversion at our factory in the UK or in the USA but we will not sell parts to individuals to carry out that conversion.

    Well that shoots my plan down then, being that where I live we can OWN but not IMPORT fixed / folding stock rifles as long as they comply with dimension limits...

    Sending my AICS AX out of the country would ensure it never made it's way back in and that's not happening considering how much it cost me!

    If you import it as 2 seperate parts not a complete stock you can do it...... How do you think they are in OZ.

    AINA Virginia. Basically told me they would not convert my rifle to a folder and had no plans of ever doing any stock mods.

    @Tom

    ahh, got me interested now - so if I bought a used AW 1.5, what would it cost (ballpark) to send it to the US factory and have it converted to a folder?

    Probably more than it would cost to jut buy the folder. Once you pay for the 1.5, and then shipping both ways, and then folder parts and cost of the conversion... Might be cheaper to just buy the 2.0

    It should be pointed out as well that not all rifles are readily convertible; some older rifles use welded segments rather than pressed and pinned segments. For the welded chassis rifles, you'd have to replace the entire chassis system - not sure if AI would do that or not, and not even theoretically possible on certain rifles (AE MKIs).
