Scope Level system

Re: Scope Level system

A buddy of mine has the Wheeler set and the levels in his set have both have fallen out of the little plastic holders. For $25 I'd pass and go with feeler gauges instead. Feeler gauges work great and they run $4 or so a set at just about any auto parts store.

Re: Scope Level system

I have those same levels upstairs but I hardly use them anymore after picking up a set of feeler gauges from Pep Boys. The levels worked pretty good but I can get a scope mounted and be just as plumb in half the time with the feeler gauges.

Re: Scope Level system

Feeler gauges work great but I always check it by scribing a vertical line ~40" long with an aiming point on the bottom. Zero on the bottom of the line then dial ~10 mills of elevation then shoot at the same point on the bottom, you should hit the line or very near it 10 mills higher. If its off to one side then your scope needs to be leveled again. A good way to check your zero, scope level and your scopes click values all in one test

Re: Scope Level system

I'm going to be mounting my scope whenever it comes in and I'm also wanting to know the best way to level the scope. I'm not sure I understand how the feeler gauges work

Re: Scope Level system

Feeler gauges are simple to use. There is a flat portion under the bottom of the scope, located below the turrets. This is the square point to which the rest of the scope is built from.

When you sit the scope in the rings, you will notice a gap between the scope flat, and the base or rail that you are mounting the scope too. You put feeler gauges in that gap, so the scope flat rests on the gauges and the scope rings.

Basically, you are making it to where the scope will have a difficult time rotating in the rings as you apply torque. Very simple to use, and does an excellent job.
