Local guy I know that does a ridiculous amount of shooting has been helping me get good at long range shooting. He's a huge advocate of shooting 22lr as precision rifle practice.

He just posted a massive 22lr ammo test where he goes through 25rnds from 28 different types of ammo.

Take a look at the results and let me know what you guys think.

It looks like there is really good ammo, and then some really terrible ammo. The chrono numbers are awesome. Some of the good chrono numbers produce really good accuracy, but it doesn't seem like it's a rule. Sounds like he was shooting off a table too, so I doubt the accuracy is really conclusive. Still cool to see how crappy some ammo is though.

Re: Huge rimfire ammo test

I've done basically the same thing with my .22's, however not as many mfg's.

.22's are picky, once you find the one your rifle likes, stick with it.

Any idea on the barrel length of his 40X? I have a 16" 10/22 and it shoots Wolf Match Target right at 1000fps.

Re: Huge rimfire ammo test

I don't know for sure, but don't most 40x have like a 28" barrel on them or something?

Re: Huge rimfire ammo test

This is a small cross section of solid info, I have tested many of these myself and the results are consistent with my experience. It would be nice to see a few more rifles thrown into the evaluation.

Some of the sd and es information is intriguing, probably why sorting ammo by rim thickness can yield extraordinary results. Seems like the subsonic stuff does a better job in the accuracy dept. several guys have told me this was usually the case.

Have you chronographed that Federal bulk ammo? I am curious if it goes supersonic.
