Alliant AR comp powder anyone?

Re: Alliant AR comp powder anyone?

I have heard of some folks having good luck in M1Az. I have had some good results with it in a .308 bolt rifle, and in an AR as well. I am headed to the range in just a few minutes to try some new loads with AR Comp in a .223. Good luck if you give it a try.

Re: Alliant AR comp powder anyone?

I have had FANTASTC results with 23.2 grains of AR-Comp behind a 75gr PRVI HPBT "Match" projectile, using CCI-41 primers in my AR's

Load data:

23.2 Gr. AR-Comp
CCI-41
COAL 2.255
CASE (trimmed) length 1.754"
Case Capacity (h2o) 30.5 gr. avg.
VERY SLIGHT taper crimp
Predicted Velocity: 2720 fps @ 70f (16" barrel)
Observed Velocity: 2770 fps @ 81f (16" barrel)
Twice fired LC brass w/ 05 head stamp.

AR comp is right up there with my favorite powders now for both accuracy and consistency in my AR's. I love the stuff.

Beware, it is fluffy stuff and when you near 24-25 grains, you are getting into compressed loads, and it makes for a little bit of spillage on a progressive press.

I have a system set up now so when my shell plate rotates out of the powder drop station, I place my finger over the case mouth to prevent spill over. Takes a little more time to load 100 rounds, but I can keep it very consistent doing it that way.

Re: Alliant AR comp powder anyone?

Got back from the range today, and had some really good shooting loads with the AR-Comp, sub .5 MOA with Hornady 68gr. I have some more room to work on the load, so I think I can get it a little tighter.
