what do you guys think of the Rainier Arms Select 5.56MM MEDCON Barrel, thinking of ordering one and just wanted a few thoughts on these. I'll mainly be pig hunting and plinking steal gongs at 100-500 yrds and a small amount of range time.

Re: rainier arms barrels

I have been very tempted to pick one up myself. If I didn't have too many uppers, I would have one already.

Can't go wrong with Rainier. If you're unhappy with the barrel, they'll support you (within reason). Priced right, too.

Re: rainier arms barrels

90-day no questions asked guarantee as well as a sub-moa guarantee. Might as well give it a try.

Re: rainier arms barrels

I just installed one of the select barrels last week, I got it out for some testing this past weekend. I think it has some promise, but have way way more testing to do before I can develop an honest opinion.

With the current price being 225 and their match barrels only being $25.00 more...

Re: rainier arms barrels

I got the rainier select match when it was still $180..16" mid length gas..

I built the upper and got antsy so instead if finishing the lower I just put it on a milspec lower to send some rounds..I couldn't be happier with the barrel

Even with the horrible gravely shit GI trigger I was still making excellent groups at 100..and banging still out to 500 without any problems.

It has been on probably 3 range trips now and has around 600 rounds through it...buy with confidence

Re: rainier arms barrels

I have about a half dozen RA barrels ~ mostly Ultra Match.
I wouldn't hesitate to use the MEDCON barrel.
It appears to be a decent SS barrel with a 5R or sorts and a standard chamber.
Looks like it would be just fine.
However, something with a Wylde chamber and decent ammo should yield better accuracy results, IMO.

Re: rainier arms barrels

I just built a new upper and installed a 14.5" Rainier Arms Select barrel (1/8 twist) with a mid-length gas system I've shot around 400 rounds so far and am pretty happy with it. I've tried everything from 55 grain ball, 64 grain Gold Dot and 69 grain GMM ammo. It really likes the 64 and 69 grain rounds.

I'm really happy with the barrel so far!!

This is the same barrel I purchased, what are your avg groups looking like?
