I have a vssfII in 22-250 that I'm going to send in to someone (lmk good smiths) I know bugholes, GAP, SAC, and several more, and have contacted a cpl about pricing. I am going to go simple, and keep my HSP, just have it bedded, and keep my (old style 700 trigger). I'm going with a 260 rem, Krieger, Brux, Bartlein brrl. This will be a "Match/Hunting" rifle. Weight isn't an issue as I hunt from blind, and can see for 1400yds, What is your input on twist, length etc. I will also be running a Brake. I want a trued action, bedded rail, stock, barrel install and chamber, gonna be a straight forward build, nothing fancy. I plan on sending it in this month or next, and would like to get it back in 6 mos or so. I've personally dealt with Clay Spencer, Dave Tooley on my own customs, along with Truman Wilson. My fanciest thing will be a fluted bolt. plain Jane bughole shooter.

Re: OK guys my 22/250 is gonna be a 260 ??s

Sound like a simple build. sounds like the only thing that could hold you up is if a barrel needs to be ordered. I would suggest medium to heavy palma/M40 even a Rem varm contour if your choice of builder has one in stock. Barrel length comes down to shorter handier or longer for little better fps. bullets in the 120-140 weight should do great for your needs, Probably go with an 8 twist? I think that should handle up to 140s fine

If your looking for a 6 month turn around depends on if a barrel is ordered and how booked the builder is. I think about anyone should be able to get er done in time

I was thinking 8 twist or 7.5. I know several Co's have the 6.5 8 twist in stock. I will just start emailing, and find out where to send it. Last Smith I put down $500, when he was done I paid the balance. He actually sent me the gun with all the data, before I had even paid. But it was worth the wait, and price. Im also thinking a little heavier than the Rem Varmint, and have the stock barrel channel cut out a tad. It def worked on my 6BR

sounds like a good deal! I would contact Tom Sarver @ Thunder Valley. Heis quoting 3-4 months on a new build but that is waiting for parts. if all you need is a truing job and a new barrel that should be pretty easy for him to fit that in!

You've already dealt with some of the best gunsmith's out there, any reason you wouldn't use them again?

Add Leonard Baity to your list. His shop has built many match winning guns as well.

Only reason is I was a BR guy, and that's all I was shooting, is 6ppc, and 6br's as well as 22br. These LR matches are a whole different game, and require a different mindset. I actually had a Smith tell me he doesn't build a gun that's meant to shoot beyond 300yds, and his pick would be a PPC. Lots have changed since 70g SMKs were winning every match.

Get that barrel ordered or watch the classifieds that will def. speed things up.
.
I went with Accurate Ord. for my build this year and was very pleased with the service and turn around was good. Especially with a 260 will be even easier. A 300 RUM isn't something that a lot of folks have done or that has much ammo around to test with.
