Building an SBR

So i have plans in mind to build my first SBR soon. I believe i have a hookup to get a spikes tactical lower but not sure which lower parts kit to get. I would like to keep it at a decent budget but not skimp. So my main question is... What upper should i get? I want something with an low profile adjustable gas block, approx 8-10" barrel threaded for a future can. I understand all the rules of class three, so i'm just trying to figure out which parts i need now so i can get it rolling... IDEAS? Then i can try and figure out which CAN i want.

Re: Building an SBR

Any quality LPK should do you fine. CMMG, RRA, Spike's, Stag all have done me good. I use aftermarket triggers anyway, so all I'm really needing in the LPK are the other pieces.

As far as an upper is concerned, what caliber are you wanting to use? Also I have numerous short uppers and all work suppressed and unsuppressed fine without an adjustable gas block. Not saying they don't have a use, but it is more money and weight if your application doesn't need it. I normally build my uppers with the parts I want and don't buy a stock upper.

If you provide a little more info such as rail, barrel material, and any other preferences I'm sure you'll get some good responses.

Re: Building an SBR

A friend has the GG&G Dominator 10.5" barreled upper he got from botach; he loves it.

Re: Building an SBR

I want a 5.56 upper cause i have a stash of ammo for it already. I would prefer an adjustable gas block but is it necessary? i thought most can shooters preferred adjustable setups

IMHO yes, suppressed again yes.

The standard that people will tell you is "I have one that works great, suppressed too." However in my expirence the overgased / sbr . suppressed beat the snot out of bolts and carrier parts.

Noveske !

Re: Building an SBR

I'm thinking thats kinda what i want but an adjustable upper is harder to find than i thought. plus most any upper is on backorder. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Rprecision</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: cannonman</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I want a 5.56 upper cause i have a stash of ammo for it already. Re: Building an SBR

I like that GG&G and its even in stock, but i just kinda want something adjustable unless someone can talk me out of it? maybe saving 1000$ on just the receiver is enough to change my mind. I'm assuming thats a DI and not a GAS piston?

THIS! I just put this barrel on my sbr and its a great length. I used a 9" handguard with a 51 tooth aac mount. looks great

Re: Building an SBR

I just got my SBR finished, cut my 11.5" DD Barrel down to 10.875 to go with 10" DD Hand-guard. Suppressor will come right up to an 1/8 inch of it, pretty happy with it.

Re: Building an SBR

That is a good looking gun scott that is actually a lot like what I had in mind. might do a red dot up top

Re: Building an SBR

Thanks, I toyed going with a 12" BAR Guard with the suppressor inset a few inches but it was just too fat for my tastes and hand size. I think I'm going to be happier with this set-up, the entire suppressor out of the hand guard, keeps the heat outside, the DD is thinner and more to my liking and I like the overall look better.
The optics have been a challenge from the start, the gun is just a backyard shooter out to around 100-125 yards, maybe a coyote if he wanders by, not meant to be primarily HD/SD. I had a tough time with a Burris 332 and my eyes, and I really can't justify the real good scopes for the guns intended purposes, so we'll see how this works out. I like it so far, it's clear and bright, going to zero it this weekend and try to get a few hundred through it, then with any luck my suppressor will be ready to pick up before Christmas!

Re: Building an SBR

I am also in the process of getting a trust set up to venture in this area. Do you need a special marked upper or lower to build a sbr or 1 with a can? I have a bunch of stuff at the house as far as uppers and lowers to use.
