Ok so here is the specs so far a few things I am still working on let me know what you guys think:

Savage fv-sr .22
SWFA SS 10x42 side focus
Burris extreme 30mm low rings
EGW 20 MOA base
Rifle basix trigger
Savage 110 Trigger spring
G96 aics chassis
Bipod Harris or GG&G not sure yet
Surefire muzzle break

I will get some pics up when everything gets here and I get it done

Re: My .22 trainer build up

Will you be shooting at several distances? Specifically short distances?

A fixed 10X scope will probably meet your needs. I had a 16X on my .22 for a long time and it was great for 50 and 100 yard bench/prone targets but it became a detriment when targeting varying distances due to the diminished field of view at 20-40 yards... especially on live targets.

The rifle choice is your call. There are several good options in the same price range. Does the Savage fit the need for whatever it is you are "training" for? If so, it is a good fit.

As for the AI airsoft clones that have become the rage, I'm not a fan at all. Kinda like a Ferrari kit on a Fiero, but whatever.

Re: My .22 trainer build up

It is going to be multiple distance ranging and training for when I get a bigger rifle built up probably from 50 to 150 yard targets. I was going to go the boyds route but after reading a few things I wasnt impressed with it I dont think it is any better than the airsoft chassis

Re: My .22 trainer build up

So a stock from a toy, is better than a stock made by a great company, who makes REAL gun stocks? You read that? Here?
That is why some of us wish Defcon would go back to Arfcom.

As my old pappy used to say, some folks are crippled too high for crutches.

I would use a Nerf Super Blaster for a stock, they are cool as hell.

Re: My .22 trainer build up

I read on multiple forums that it is soft wood will crack if you try to pillar bed it plus it isnt worth the money to have to replace the bottom metal at least the airsoft chassis is aluminum chassis and I can get one for a lot cheaper than the boyds. Either one is better than the savage stock though armorpl8chikn do you own a boyds tacticool?

Re: My .22 trainer build up

Yes I did own a Boyd's tacticool. I did not find the wood to be soft at all. I liked the stock. I own several Boyd's stocks as a matter of fact. I like them all. They are affordable, strong, well designed.
I am not affiliated with Boyd's in any manner.

They aren't McMillan or Manners But they are good stocks at an affordable price.
They are cheaper than used Airsoft stocks too.

Re: My .22 trainer build up

did you pillar bed your stock or leave it untouched also what make of gun did you put in it

Re: My .22 trainer build up

I bedded a CZ452 into the tacticool. Just traditional bedding without pillars. It was extremely accurate. There is a pic on page one here:

Re: My .22 trainer build up

just a comment on the G96 stock...I just picked up one of these stocks for my rifle (Izhmash BI-7-2KO) and can say that it's a great stock for the conversion.

You have to get the G&G G96 stock (300 for the gun) as it's the only one that has any quality. This is no cheap plastic 1-pc toy stock that you'd expect from an airsoft rifle. What you have is an aluminum and Nylon multi piece system (200 for the stock) that is quite heavy by comparison....

What you'll notice is that this stock is heavy...not flimbsy at all. It's made of some type of Nylon polymer with the 3pc chassie comprised of aluminum front and rear chasse with plastic center section that appears to be the same material as the side pieces. The center section can be replaced with aluminum square tube if you like but may be more trouble than its worth.

The only downside to this stock is the price...200 bucks from the manufacturer. Keep a lookout on craigs list, ebay and the different airsoft forums and you can pick up a used rifle for that price, then sell the airsoft components.

keep an eye out here for my build/review...

Re: My .22 trainer build up

I picked up a wells g96 for 12 bucks plus shipping all its missing is the cheek rest knobs so I plan on getting some original aics ones for it and using it

Re: My .22 trainer build up

I was getting read to edit my post and mention the one you've posted.

From what I can see, that well stock is actually better than the G&G stock...no center plastic (got one of those on the way too)

Now, the big question...do I want to buy another 22 for the other stock. If I do it will probably be a CZ or Savage MK 2
