I have basically shot out my remmy 5r .308. rIGHT NOW i HAVE A LITTLE OVER 7,000 rounds through the tube. My accuracy is starting to erode and I have been chasing the lands for a while now. I am to the point where I am going to rebarrel my rifle. I am going to sta with a .308 since I have a large investment in theat platform in the form of dies, brass, bullets, etc. I will start shooting f-class next spring. Should I fo with the 155 palma chamber or go with the sammi chamber for 175's? Will the extra velocity in the 155's outperform the extra weight of the 175's? I don't know if it makes a difference, but the barrel is a krieger with the 5r rifleing. When the barrel is installed, I will have the action trued as well. Thanks for the input.

There has been a lot written here and at AccurateShooter about reamers and chambers for F-TR. Search a little in this forum and over there.

The short answer is to decide what bullet you want to shoot and then call Dave Kiff and tell him you want a 308F-TR reamer, picking a bullet has also been discussed in length lately.

Re: Which rifle chamber?

What tw of your Krieger barrel?

Most Palma who shoot 155 prefer slow rate of twist with longer barrel like 30" to create MV near 3,000 fps.

But if you prefer heavier bullet, give a try with Berger 185 LRBT or Hybrid. I'm happy with Berger 185 and shot MV @ 2,550 fps. They shoot well with faster tw like 1:11 or 1:10

Based on my opinion, I prefer heavier bullet due to comparing with barrel life. The faster you shot, the lower barrel life.

Re: Which rifle chamber?

For 155 gr, I would recommend Palma Reamer

For 175 - 185 gr, I would recommend to order a FTR Reamer from PTG. Just tell them what reloading component will you prefer and they will suggest all detail of proper chamber.

Re: Which rifle chamber?

Is this going to be a dedicated F-TR rig or do you need it to be a repeater?

A dedicated single-fed F-TR can have a long throat, so you can run heavies way out to maximize the limited case capacity.

Re: Which rifle chamber?

Longer, heavier. Good call on truing the action.

It is not necessarily to increase capacity. As a general rule you want to seat your bullets with the major diameter (the bearing surface) above the neck shoulder junction. In order to do that with heavy bullets, your chamber needs to have the throat pushed out farther.
