The Trijicon TARS arrived this morning

Really looking forward to this review ...

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

Looks cool. What is the weight like? And can you blow this one up too? I think for $4k, it should resist the blowing up well.

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

The scope looks great. Did it go into production with the Schott glass?

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

Looking forward to seeing this review as well. Not sure about $4k for a 3-15x scope that weighs 4lbs... but i'm guessing this thing has something up it's sleeve.

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

Looks like a Premier Heritage 3-15 housing, with a USO center section, Vortex Razor elevation turret, and EOTech illumination control.

    48oz?

    Seriously?

It's $3,390.95... $609.05 short of the ability to resist blowing up

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

Awesome news. I'll be in the market for a scope over the next few months and will give this one a serious look. Can't wait for the review.

If it's as tough as an acog, it might well be worth it.

I've held one, and everyone talks about hammering nails with their USO or schmidt, but I think this one really might be that hammer/blunt force trauma object.

It was stout, and looked very clear, I hope it's as rock solid as their acogs.

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

Might be a good bugout scope. But it is rather heavy...would probably unbalance my DTA Covert.

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

NEED pics of the glass and a review on how it behaves. Ive been resisting buying one of these for a good while now, but I really am a huge fan of Trijicon (I like my optics bombproof) I'm hoping this is the review that finally convinces me to take the dive.

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

Excellent. I'm still waiting for them to ship me the one we won at the SAC earlier this year. Hopefully the review will be glowing.

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

It does have a zero stop, and locking turrets,

The zero stop is built into the turret, so you can't dial below the 0 as it sits.

    There is no setting

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

so it looks like the brass is 2 pieces on the top held with 2 allen screws are these tightened down kinda like nightforce does theirs when you decide on the zero point?? also does that spring plunger then allow the turret to unlock when the knob is pulled up. am I understanding it ok??

Uhhhh, 2.98 lbs is closer to 3 lbs than 4 lbs. Clearly this scope is meant for Uncle Sam with deep pockets and not us peons.

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

I have seen a turret like this before. It was designed by a man named Reuben Garrett Lucius Goldberg. Some part of an adjustment knob for a toaster if I remember right.

So, it's $10 short of not being shredded when packed in the center of 30 kilos of C4? What a shame.

Umm, no. Assuming the rest of the scope is built like the turrets (or, like a tank) it should perform as advertised no matter what. "Thank you God, thank you for the engineers at Trijicon."

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

Love trijicon and would love to have a tars. Can't wait for the reveiw!!

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

We got to see this scope today. It's pretty short, definitely feels like you could beat something or someone with it if you ran out of bullets. The little bit I was able to look through the glass outside, it was very nice. The parallax knob was a little tight, but the adjustments felt very nice otherwise. I'd like to give one a try on the range to see what it could do.

Also, in looking at a couple mounts, the regular Spuhr mounts won't fit as the saddle is a hair too long. The AI factory mounts and obviously individual rings will work just fine.

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

I saw this at SHOT Show last year. I am still waiting on Frank's review of the scope. That is a lot of coin! Especially with the new Bushnell 4-30x coming out very soon.

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

Can't wait to hear how it performs.

Re: In Hand - Trijicon TARS

That thing looks like its absolutely indestructible. Please blow it up.. Or shoot it or something. I want to see that thing get seriously worked over..

Quite like the look of it, like everyone else I'm interested to hear the first reviews come rolling in, particularly in regards to its effectiveness to work as an alternative baton for police officers.

I have a mil version on order and can’t wait to get my hands on it. I see some showing up on ebay and gunbroker so perhaps my order will be filled soon.

Had to send the TARS back to Trijicon for a little turret repair. Open box demo had been abused a bit. For the deal I got I ain't crying. I didn't see a review here on this optic but I can promise that I will get to test this one out this weekend for sure.

I really like the TARS as it stands alone, there are some pros & cons that I will add as most of my thoughts are scattered on this scope. So putting them all in one place would be easier.

    Overall -- High Marks

This is currently how I have this scope set up. It's on my Robert Gradous build 6.5CM with Rock Solid Chassis

I moved this scope from rifle to rifle, and found it to be very repeatable and accurate. There were (are) no hiccups of any kinds and the one I have is not a production version as noted to me on several occasions by Trijicon. The glass is very good, the resolution excellent, and the turrets are very crisp and precise.

This thing is bulletproof. If you need an optic that can hold up to the same standards of an ACOG, this is your scope. If it is a duty weapon, either Military or LE this is your optic. If you are hunting in the wilds of Alaska all year round, this is your optic. If you live in FLA and shoot every 3rd weekend it's probably too much optic.

Another good feature, they offer options, but Mils & MOA and in this case, I like their MOA reticle better than their Mil based one. So if you are an MOA guy, consider this.

    The Cons

It's expensive, too expensive for most in the magnification range they currently have available. However the Law Enforcement Deals that I have heard about make this scope very attractive. If your department is looking to upgrade and you know the scope they are replacing is older than 10 years, you want to steer them towards this. Being handed down and passed around, this is the one that is gonna rise above the rest. I see this as a long term investment for many, guys who rarely replace things.

It's heavy, damn heavy, so if you are looking to save any weight, this is not the scope for you. But if you want to balance weight vs durability, this is it.

The top screw on my version is tiny, so consider that. It has very few threads holding the turret cap on, caveated to say, I have not see an issue with it. But I can see it developing one... especially with hands that are not careful.

Overall, I can see it working out for a lot of people with no complaints.

Hopefully they balance the price out a bit for the average guy, but honestly it was not designed for the casual shooter, but if you can find one at a deal, and you're interested in it. It;s worth the investment.

Just picked my TARS up yesterday and was able to mount it to my rifle today! Hope to get a chance to try it out soon.

What updates are you looking for ?

It has been talked about quite a bit, the scope is an excellent optic but better suited for LE when you consider the cost and the power range. Its pricey for 15x optic but bulletproof and with the LE Discount a much better deal.

For a civilian shooter with no discounts, it's a bit expensive. Still there is no downside to the optic itself, its a great piece of glass and solid performer.

Got my Trijicon ACOG and love it so far. I'm using the both eyes open aiming system also known as BAC which is supper cool, it takes a little practice but it definitely gives you a very confident feel holding your weapon especially if you are using it in any type of tactical scenario. Granted its not amazing for long range but up close and especially medium range, this will be the ideal optic for the ar15. I got it at Quality Optics - Trijicon ACOG, sniper scopes, firearm accessories and other optics they seem to have a good deal on Trijicon acogs I was thinking about going for the VCOG but it is a little too pricey so maybe once the prices come down I will go for it but for now my ACOG is my babyacog 2.jpg
