Got A Few Crows

Crows were out yesterday. My Foxpro battery was dead so I downloaded a app for my phone. I set the phone up on a window of the house and just waited. The crows were several hundred yards away but they heard the phone and came in within about 50 yards. I think it worked out pretty good. There are still two out there I couldn't find.

Re: Got A Few Crows

The rifle is a CZ452 varmint 22lr with a Super Sniper 10x scope DIP 25MOA base, Seekins rings and a Rifle Basix trigger. The app is Clandestine Research crow calls and it is a free app. I didn't use an external speaker either, just the phone. That was the most fun I have had in a while.

LOL, I've eaten crow more times than I care to admit, if you know what I mean but never ate crow before!

OP, I bet that was a great time!

Re: Got A Few Crows

I have never ate crow. I have never been that hungry. The external speaker is something that I am going to have to check in to at the very least it can be a good backup to the foxpro. I am glad you all liked the picture. Looks like I have got some more fun to have. All those little dots are crows not blackbirds.

Re: Got A Few Crows

How do you like the SS scope on the 455 Varmint? I am thinking of a setup like that very soon! Are the Seekins rings low?

Looks like a blast! Great shooting!

The rifle is a 452 but the scope works perfectly on the rifle. 10x is the best all around in my opinion. I believe the Seekins rings are the medium height.

That is crazy, I have never seen that many crows. Looks like you have your work cut out for you. Lucky you!

My bad, but thank you sir!

Re: Got A Few Crows

Nice!

Any resources you'd recommend for somebody wanting to get into the sport? I have killed a few incidentals with the .22 and it was a rush! What call sounds do you use? Constant calling? Set up distance from call? Terrain type?

-Deadly.

Re: Got A Few Crows

I usually don't turn the call off. Crow distress, crow struggle, dying crow and crow and hawk fight all work well. When I bought the Foxpro I bought directly from them and you can get whatever calls you want on it. I got every crow call they had. I have read that someone that really knows what their doing is doing can talk the crow right back again after the shooting starts over and over again. I just have to guess. I have not done enough of this to really know what I am doing but I had rather be doing this any day as hunting deer. Crow Busters is a good place to read up on crow hunting. There is even a few recipes on there.

I didn't do as well yesterday mostly because I hunted the same location and from the same spot. I am confident they saw me but I got a few anyway. If I would have had my battery charged for the Foxpro the first time I probably would have killed more the other day. The crows on the right are decoys. They are battery powered and make the basic crow sound. I use the owl as my hawk.

Re: Got A Few Crows

Make sure the phone is trackable, that way if they take it, you can literally hunt them down, assuming your kind request for them to return it doesn't work.

Nice set-up, I really like my CZ453 Varmint with Weaver V24.

Re: Got A Few Crows

Wow the decoys look more crowlike than the crows. whats the name of that App

Re: Got A Few Crows

I missed one yesterday. They are not coming in quite as close anymore for some reason. The rangefinder said 215 yards. I put 32 minutes in the scope and squeezed the trigger. It looked like the wind was perfect but I was short on elevation by 3-5 feet. It was an unlikely shot to make but still fun to try. I shoot way past that all the time but I am not good about writing things down. I may need to order one of those data books after all. It sure would have been fun to tell people I shot a crow past 200 yards with a 22 rifle. I love to see their faces when they have that I know your a liar look.

Re: Got A Few Crows

This is a great thread.....and you share my addiction. I use a Cz 452 with a can. I usually bag about 75 or so a winter, but they must of all flew down to Bama this winter(I live in West Virginia)....My numbers are way down this winter....My count is only 9!! My personal best distance is 165 yards, I use a leupy Mark 4 M3 knobs...I brought feathers out of one at 209, but it flew off fine, hahahha. I'm still trying for the 200 yard kill. Soooooooo much fun. The best sniper simulation training around!!

Re: Got A Few Crows

243, look into the Radio Shack amp, or check out varmintal's build, or if you have $50 to invest, look into the Cass Creek Big Horn. I picked up one to use with my Iphone, and from what I can tell, you can plug it into a FoxPro or other if you get into it more, and have even more volume than just the FoxPro can provide.
