For selfish reasons I reached out to S&B (Mark) today in an attempt to discern when their PM 1-8 would be released:

a. Zenith out in January 2013?
b. PM for release mid year 2013?
c. Neither one of these dates matter at this point until someone actually has a scope in hand.

***Sigh***

- Listening to S&B on the 1:8 I am looking at the 1.5:6 with US Optics.... Price seems good! Does anyone have experience with this product?

a. CQB - will the 1.5 produce any issues with both eyes open?
b. Durability and quality of their products?
c. I guess the conversion to MOA makes sense although I think in terms of mills. I like the idea of the illuminated Horshoe in 2nd FP.

I appreciate the feedback.

I am likely to get the March 1-10 to meet this need in my arsenal.

Really look at the Vortex Razor, I - 6x, this is a great optic.

Having looked at the S&B 1-8x, I personally like the Vortex Better, I thought the 1-8x was better at 4x and below while doing a side by side with the Leupold. With that comparison I found the Leupold better at 4x and above.

The retail on the S&B is supposed to top $3200, and I know Leupold dropped their price, but the Vortex well be almost $1200 less... and I really liked it.

For lower cost, the Bushnells were nice, but they are closer to $1000, still good options. Their 1-8x was pretty nice.

The S&B wasn't all that, and waiting as long as people have, not to mention the price... it really needs to be adjusted.

Here is the Vortex on a KAC EMC

This is sort of a specialized need and if I was spending my money I wouldn't be considering the S&B, especially after using it. Now if they change some things I might reconsider, but price would have to be the first change. Nobody is doing +$3k for an 8X

Re: FYI: S&B PM 1-8/Ideas for Comparables

When the vortex comes out mil/mil with a non-BDC reticle some folks in the scope world are in TROUBLE. And they deserve it too.

USO also has a 1-8x that is now available though I don't think it is on the web site yet.

How does the Vortex compare to the Leupold Mark 6 1-6? I've been on the fence with these two optics for quite awhile now. Im outfitting a general purpose .223 with one of these.

I had the same question. I choose the MK6. For my needs/wants I like the weight a lot more, better turrets and reticle IMO. For me it was a no brainer once the MK6 actually became available. I've been very pleased with the purchase thus far.

I've got the MK6, MK8 and the Vortex. They each have their minuses.

The reticle, when lit, in the MK6 is hyper sensative to having the correct eyebox allignment.

The MK8 isn't a true 1x.

The vortex glass has more distortion in it towards the outer edges than either of the others, plus it weighs a bit more than I was suspecting it would.

Last I spoke with anyone at S&B, I was told I would receive my 1-8 in march. I spoke with premier about their 1-8 and they said they are unsure if that project will materiallize commercially.

I spoke with a rep of S&B about release date and was told that they wished they knew when it would be out.

i personally like the swarovski 1-6, for a close to mid range scope it's tough to beat

I have seen it used in 3 gun comps quite a bit.
