A guy brought this into a LGS last night. He paid $71 on ebay. The price, red/green illumination, no click turrets, and sunglasses image quality are dead giveaways, but they went all-out on the Leupold medallion, and counterfeit markings.

Re: Heads-Up: Fake Leupold's from China

That sucks, but nothing on it looks like a Mark 4, those are very poor knock offs.

Damn china crap.

By now everybody should know about this shit.

Re: Heads-Up: Fake Leupold's from China

If I was in charge, I would launch unrestricted submarine warfare against any freight ship coming into our out of China's coastline. They should be banned from making anything other than what they made pre-Kissenger opening them up under Nixon.

You can count on Chinese goods to break, and be useless.

Well, their good enough that Leupold has dedicated a part of their website for years to help customers identify the knockoffs. You can also just call Leupold with a serial number.

Okie

Re: Heads-Up: Fake Leupold's from China

The "if it looks too good to be true.." principle should have been used here. Leupold for $71? C'mon, man.

Re: Heads-Up: Fake Leupold's from China

It's good to know this new artwork. But, Leupold should change their scope design every few years just like what Uncle Sam did with Benjamin Franklin.

Stack on top of that a local dealer is selling it.....well. My guy paid $350.

I'm just glad it was caught.

For your example, yes, it's easier to understand. However the original instance of finding a Leupold..for $71..on EBay..

It's like buying a brand new Mercedes for a few thousand dollars from the bum that lives under the bridge, it's just too good a deal to pass up.

I know, like I said, everybody should know about them by now. Besides, it may have the medallion, but everything else is not even close.

Re: Heads-Up: Fake Leupold's from China

Surprised a legit ffl would sell a blatant counterfeit. Hope it was with the understanding that it was one.

but, for 70 benjamins, if you can stand seeing a target the same as a goldfish would see it, mount er up

70 benjamins???

You mean 70 Washingtons I hope! $7000 would be a chunck on a scope.

Re: Heads-Up: Fake Leupold's from China

I just wanted to clarify that this was NOT for sale at the local gun store. They only stock NF, Trijicon, real Leupold's, etc.

A customer brought it in to show what one looks like. Yes, the turrets feel like Counter-Sniper. They probably come out of the same filthy armpit hole of gun show-grade optics manufacturing somewhere over there.

Well, they're close enough or else no one would be getting ripped off by them. I handled one at the Tulsa gun show two years ago and thought it was a pretty good look alike and I've owned a Mk 4 for years. Its obvious that the scope IS similar in appearance. Of course, some copies are better than others.

Re: Heads-Up: Fake Leupold's from China

I can only say this...I have a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust that I paid $800 for back in 1975.
It's been regularily serviced to about the tune of $300 every 5 years and is $6000 new these days.
My $100 Casio keeps way better time ;-) , and guess where it's made.
My point is that a lot of garbage comes out of China and one has to be wary.
Actually anyone on the planet who thought he was getting a real Leupold at this price is living in la-la land.
But wholeheartedly knocking China product, when I gaurantee that you are posting your thoughts on a computer whose guts come from that country is being a little unfair.

I hope you get your iPhone before you sink it to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

Gonna be a bleak Christmas, too, after you scuttle all your kid's toys.

Not everything that comes out of China is crap, but this kind of $hit should get confiscated as soon as it shows up on our shores. It's a pretty tall order, though... we can't exactly afford the kind of policing it would require to eliminate all of this fraudulent garbage.

Caveat Emptor (Let the buyer beware).

Re: Heads-Up: Fake Leupold's from China

I got burned by one of these recently. It was a mark 4 1.5-4 x 20. I called leupold and they had me send pictures. They said it was the first fake they had seen in the mark 4 line.

Re: Heads-Up: Fake Leupold's from China

A friend of mine ownes a pretty big airsoft store. He just said that the next wave of knock offs will be Nightforce scopes. Be on gaurd.

Re: Heads-Up: Fake Leupold's from China

I wouldn't pay 20 bucks for a leupold scope even a real one.
