I've trolled SH for the last year learning from all of you. Most of my posts have been "I'll Take It". What a dangerous website. I don't want to know how many hours and dollars it as cost me

As for the AICS for Savage 10, I ordered one from Mile High and got it on yesterday. Shot it this morning. First 5 shot group at 100 was just over .7 MOA. Second 5 shot group was just under .6. I didn't have time to get any farther out, but will shortly.

I just can't cozy up to the McRees or XLRs. They are nice, but they just don't flip my switch. Taking mine out of the box was the first time I've touched an AICS, but I bought on reputation and reviews. Thought I would like it and I do.
I've done a lot of shooting, but I'm new to the long range game, so I was very happy with the accuracy. If I could hold that consistently, I would be ecstatic. Now the trick is to get those sub-MOA groups to hit stuff on the first try . . .

It is even more encouraging though because the loads where my first attempt at loading progressively on my Dillon. I weighed each charge, but otherwise purely progressive.

Now I'm just waiting for a mount from LaRue to get my HDMR on and I'm set.

All this to say I'm happy with:

Tag for screw spacing. I have a 4.25 center feed that is begging for this.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the spacing is 4.40. Also requires a side bolt release vs the newer bottom mounted ones.

Re: Savage 10 Short Action AICS Chassis Exist!

Mine is a stagger feed, not center feed. Oh well.

Any word on an AICS for the 110 FCP .338 Lapua?

One thing I noticed, that seemed different from what I remember on the Remington 700 pattern AICS 1.5 that I had a few years back... one of the stock bolts (the ones that hold the skin on) has to be removed to access the front action screw head. A minor nit, as the existing skin patterns kind of dictate where those go... but it does mean that you probably want to be sure to carry a 2.5mm allen along with your 'regular' 3/16" allen for the action screws, or else you won't be able to check/tighten 'em. Like I said, minor, but worth noting.

Re: Savage 10 Short Action AICS Chassis Exist!

$1086.43 stock for a $200 action, isnt that like putting 10k worth of tires and wheels on a $100 car,but in the end its all about looking cool right?

Re: Savage 10 Short Action AICS Chassis Exist!

Mmmmm... more like a $400-450 action, last time I checked street prices on a Savage Target Action.

Yes, the stock is spendy. Yes, there are (now) other chassis systems out there that are somewhat less expensive... I've tried a few, and no complaints. I like the 'feel' of the AICS a little better, but thats purely personal... others liken it to a 2x4. To each their own. You don't want to spend the money, no problem. No need to be a wanker about it if others do

Re: Savage 10 Short Action AICS Chassis Exist!

Can anyone give any feel on the thumbhole/handgrip part of these? I think these stocks look great and the DBM (which I currently lack on my savage) is tempting. But with big hands I have always found pistol grip type rifles to be a tad on the small side (ar15 grips being the worst for this).

Any comments/thoughts on the grip size?

    thx.

Re: Savage 10 Short Action AICS Chassis Exist!

The grip is a bit small if you tend towards being 'full-sized'.

At first when I had my AICS 1.5 in the past I had thought about taking some para-cord and wrapping the grip to fill it out, but in a very short while I became used to the grip the way it is.

When I got this one (2.0)... it seemed to me like the grip is slightly smaller than I remembered. I kind of doubt that, probably just my memory playing tricks on me
    wink.gif

A person could probably take something like RatGripz and beef up the front/side of the pistol grip a bit if you really wanted. The fit isn't *that* bad, but I'm definitely not making full contact with the center of the 'cup' of my palm.

This is probably one of the biggest downsides to the AICS chassis vs. one of the others (McRee, XLR, etc.) - they use conventional AR grips, which means you can use *any* AR grip, including larger ones like the Sierra Precision (available from Sinclair Int'l or Brownell's) or even semi-custom ones ala Tubb (if you can find it). Some of the early McRee chassis (like the one I have) used a non-standard thread for the pistol grip so you can't just use an AR grip bolt (it *is* one easily available at the local hardware store though), but they changed that for the better a while back and I'd assume most other 'chassis' manufacturers using the AR grip just used it from the start.

I've been eye-balling a set of ViperSkins for this thing... and thats probably the one thing I really wish they'd done is made it take AR grips instead of having the (still too small) grip molded as part of the skins.

Re: Savage 10 Short Action AICS Chassis Exist!

Thanks for the intel, think I will try and track one down to have a fondle before dropping $1k on it.

Re: Savage 10 Short Action AICS Chassis Exist!

Definitely a wise idea. There are a *lot* of great options out there today... more so than when I picked up that 1.5 I had. The rifle I had in it had some issues that frustrated me, so I sold it... regretted it ever since, mainly because of of the stock. It wasn't perfect, but it was just so easy to shoot from various positions (for me).

Re: Savage 10 Short Action AICS Chassis Exist!

So how much are they running if i were to order one from you?

Since Mile High is the importer... if they don't have them, I rather doubt anyone else will either. I'd say you're out of luck until they get the next batch in. It sounded like the number in the first batch was fairly small... when I called and got mine, they had maybe six available - according to the gal I talked to, but then again they'd told me I was first in line back in October too.

    Pistol grip 2.0 from MH

I purchased the pistol grip version from MH about 3 weeks ago. Much better than the Choate stock that was on my model 10.

Is the pistol grip stock a different model or just different skin?

Rlbol, I don't know if there is a "structural" difference between the pistol grip and thumbhole stock as I have not seen a picture of the thumbhole with the skins off. The part number is 25435DE and the description calls out the pistol grip according to my invoice. Looking at the first picture the part number for the thumbhole is 25435THDE.

If any one purchased one and is interested in selling it please let me know!
