In all the gun madness out there I decided to get one while I could still get one at a cheap price. I've always wanted one and could never justify it to myself. But I figured what the heck. Just in case some shit legislation gets passed I don't want to always look back and regret I never bought one.

I'll be taking it to the range tomorrow on just iron sites. See if I can hit out to 500 with just irons. Should be fun.

On a side note I went to a local gun shop today that I've always gotten good deals at. He said he'd been open for 37 years and yesterday was his busiest day ever. He had 6 AR's in stock when he opened, sold 2 while I was standing there and sold the 3rd one to me. I picked up a SW M&P 15 just to sit on.

Shits getting nuts out there boys.

Re: Bought me an M1A today

Well this might be my new favorite rifle. What a fun, just flat out fun rifle to shoot. With just the iron sites I shot a consistent 4 inch group at 100. I was also able to hit the target out to 565 yards consistently.

I put 150 rounds through it without a hiccup. I was shooting federal SMK 168 BTHP. I am more than sure I could hit a human sized target out to 500 all day long with just the irons.

I am more than happy with my latest purchase.

Re: Bought me an M1A today

i love mine, they are a blast. Definately a must for any serious shooters safe.

Re: Bought me an M1A today

You are gonna love it . I love mine and would take this over an AR any day

Re: Bought me an M1A today

I bought the Loaded version last summer. One of my favorite guns to shoot. A couple of months ago, I added a Sadlak mount for optics along with sadlak brass piston and spring guide, plus a cheek riser to see through my Weaver T36. Still waiting on a JAE-100 G3 stock. Great, great rifle.

Re: Bought me an M1A today

I dont think I'm going to add a scope mount. I've read(someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the brass ejecting slams into the bottom of the scope.

Plus the rifle is heavy as it is, why add more weight? I've shown I can hit pretty much anything I want out to 500 plus. I'll put the money into extra magazines.

Re: Bought me an M1A today

Take a look at the Troy Battle Rail. I might put one on mine. Does anyone have one?

Awesome, everyone should have at least 1 M14 Clone in their arsenal. I like them so much, I have 2...a Fulton Armory and an LRB

I was thinking about getting one from Fulton Armory as well. How does it compare with Sprinfield? Do you have a preference?

Oh like any other gun I have I'll probably buy another now that I've shot this one and fell in love with it.

Try the Sierra 155 or 175 MKs. Both are better bullets than the old 168.

Hard to go wrong with a good pogo stick! (old joke). My first one was a Devine purchased in 73. Loved it. I put at least 40,000 rounds through it. Came with a USGI chrome lined bore, in 75 I put on the first of 2 and 1/2 USGI NM barrels (original run). Great rifle.

Looked at both at Perry this year. Sad to say the QC on most of the M1As these days isn't quite as good as it was. Saw a lot of orange peal (sloppy casting) on the Fulton receivers as well as machining marks... not great. SAIs have their share of QC issues from time to time (And I know them all). I won't touch a receiver that won't take USGI parts without modification which leaves out LRB (have to modify the op rod tang) or Smith (I won't lap lugs on a bolt). Besides, I was warned a long time ago about Smith attitude and had the misfortune to run into it... someone sent me a set of Smith NM sights to look at, finish is wrong (although it is 1/2 adjustment per USGI NM), and glare on a sunny day is horrible. I can fix it, but why would I want to at that price?

If you have the money, find a Devine and make sure it is one, they're still the best made. A.R. Sales come next, but they're not finished right (commercial finish) which is why I never picked one up when they were still in business. Right now I'm after one of two Devines. I have 2 Kreiger barrels waiting for one. Stick with USGI parts when you can. Expensive, but made right.

Re: Bought me an M1A today

Now go pick up a boyd's walnut handguard and get rid of that plastic piece. Really completes the look IMO.
