Rifle Scopes One scope, two rifles . . . . will it work for me?

I posted this question over on another forum, but I wanted to get some additional input here.

I've decided that the 3-9X scope that used to top my in-line muzzle loader, set up on a T/C Encore, was just a bit too much scope for that gun. At the same time I was also looking at re-scoping my Encore barrel in .308. It too carries a 3-9X scope. I don't ususally take shots very far, I guess I average about 75 yards or so.

So, what I'm currently considering is using the same scope that I recently purchased (1.25-4X 30mm) for my muzzle loader barrel on the .308 tube. Both barrels have the identical Warne Maxima base and the scope is riding in Warne Maxima QD rings. Obviously I'd have to sight the scope in once the swap between barrels is made.

What say y'all?

You can do it, but major PITA IMO. I would simply purchase a SWFA fixed 6X or 10X and be done with it. Good Luck

Pain in the Ass. Try it. You'll swap it a few times then say FUCK THIS, I'm buying another scope.
I like to have my rifles (especially hunting rifles) ready to go at any time. Dont always have time to check zero before I go hunt.

Same sort of deal, I set up a Savage to swap between a smokeless ML barrel and a .243Win. I thought I'd use them is separate parts of the year so it was a great deal.

I've shot the .243 maybe twice in three years. The switchover and re-zeroing is just too much of a PIA unless you are going to then shoot it a lot.

If you have a good scope and rings it's not too much of an inconvenience. A common refrain people love to use here is "buy once, cry once." I've done that, purchased a Vortex Razor HD with Vortex 35mm rings. If money was no object, I would gladly get another one just to make life a little easier. But, cost is a consideration, and since I cannot afford another Razor I have to choose between a far less expensive scope that does not nearly measure up or swapping my good scope between my rifles.

The rifles I am swapping my scope between all have 20 MOA rails with marked slots for where the rear ring fits. At the range I shoot a group and adjust. 3-5 shots is all I need, plus the time to fidget with the knobs and the zero stop.

The scope's reticle (EBR-3) makes it easy to mark the proper adjustment needed. If I was using a nikoplex or BDC reticle on a hunting scope, this would probably be a larger headache but still manageable.

I had an ar 15 that i used a 22 converter in at times and would switch out scopes between changes. each time a returned to the 223 i would have to reset the scope for zero. for precision work the fewer changes the better.

not the same thing but i hope it helps.

+1 It really depends on how similar the rifles are. I have two identical savages bolt guns (except for the caliber) - I just swap them out between my McRees chassis and remount the scope (Warne rings) and adjust the zero based on a few shots in my backyard range. It works pretty well for me but I don't go back and forth that often.
