Looking for recommendations for a 6.5 die. I'm looking for a FL sizing die, and a competition type seating die, with a floating stem and all that jazz. I checked Midway, but they only have an Redding competition seating die, which is twice what I paid for my RCBS .308 competition seating die!

Am I correct in assuming the .308 shellholder will work for 6.5 cases?

P.S. Also, any suggestions on the best deal for a few hundred rounds of loaded ammunition to start off with?

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor Dies

I always suspected those pricey dies are geared more towards bench rest loaders. I get great consistency with the 30-40$ hornady new dimension set.

Yes on shell holder

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor Dies

I started with Hornady die and got redding dies. The main difference is better bullet concentricity with the seating die. I'm not sure if I can tell a difference with their resizing die as far as accuracy.

Confirm same shell holder as 308win.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor Dies

Personally, I use the Redding Competition die set which includes a body die, bushing neck die and competition seating die. Pretty much use Redding dies exclusively on my single stage presses.

I agree that Redding is good stuff and I use them for quite a few calibers.
That said, I found no better or worse performance from ammo loaded with the Hornady dies than I get from the top shelf Reddings in the case of 6.5CM. The one issue I ever had with Hornady dies was before the Zip Spindle. I would go Hornady and not worry at all.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor Dies

When I started shooting the cartridge in its early days the only dies available were the basic Hornady set. The only thing I added was a micrometer to the seater. Never found a reason to change. They load very accurate ammo.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor Dies

I bought the redding 3 die set. A seater, fl, and neck combo. Not the competition but was still 120$. Figured I don't need the micrometer because I will be using a comparator to load to ogive. Although they are so much easier to set up and use. Havent even got my rifle yet. Ga Precision built it and it was on the rifles ready to ship page. Crusader w/ 27" #7 bartlein. Should be a laser beam. I've got 900 140 amaxs, 200 bergers, brass, AND NO RIFLE. Should be here next week...... Or I'm going to lose my mind!!

Doesn't show to make a difference on the target but to each his own.

Never said they were the only to consider just that not supporting the case doesn't show any negative results on the target.
