Gunsmithing Duracoat or hydrodipping?

Looking to do a multicam AR.

I've seen some dipped pieces that looked, in my opinion, better than multicam duracoat. I like the look but I'm not sure if the dipped pieces hold up as well as the duracoated ones.

Anybody have any side by side experience? Also, how does the cost compare when professionally done?

I wouldn't do either, check out ceracoat.

I prefer the ceracoat for durability also. If you want the precise pattern you can't beat hydro dipped. I hunted all fall with a hydro dipped and was surprised the way that it held up.

We use Dura coat as our base coats for our firearms. I know you can just Dura coat but you're adding a layer for every color. Can you make a pattern with Cerakote? (I don't know). With Hydrographics you add a layer (.25 mils to 1.5 mils) with one coat Dura coat, layer of ink, clear coat.

A guy here on the hide who does a really nice digicam. I'm a huge fan of his woodland digi in the gallery. He uses polane,which I don't know a whole lot about except its similar to duracoat.
