Help me spec a GAP-10

I'm considering pulling the trigger on a GAP-10 and am looking for some insight, especially from owners or people who have shot it.

I'm on an iPhone, so hard to do much searching for previous threads - so I apologize if these are redundant questions:

Of the accessories - what have you guys found was worth the extra cost and what wasn't? I'm leaning towards a .260 but would consider other calibers that might shoot better in the gun. Also, thinking about the 2-stage Geiselle and the Surefire 7.62 Brake so I can run a can on it later down the road.

So here are the questions:
1. What caliber? .260 or something else? I'm well familiar with .308 and wanted to move into something a bit more high preformance for TAC comps and general LR steel.

2. How does the Surefire 7.62 brake work well as a brake? I currently shoot with a Badger FTE on a .308 bolt gun and love it. Is the Surefire as effective or less so? I lean towards the Surefire for the future QD suppressor ability but don't want to give up too much in recoil when its not supressed.

3. Is the Noveske switch block required to run it suppressed?

4. What is the ideal barrel length? Was thinking initially going with 20 or 22". Are the shorter barrel performing as well at longer ranges?

5. The GAP website says the PRS stock is an upgrade. I know stocks are personal preference, but is the exra $210 worth it?

6. What is the rough lead time for these from GAP averaging these days?

Also, another question..... what kind of accuracy are folks getting with tuned reloads in the GAP-10? For some of their other rifles - GAP's website guarantees 1/2 MOA or 3/8 MOA, etc. accuracy. But no numbers are posted for the gas gun. Just wondering what a reasonable expectation to have is.

I wonder if you order one now if you would be allowed to receive it if in fact a ban on these semi auto's takes place. It will take about 6-8 months to get the rifle shipped. If the ban goes through will the transfer be denied????

I ordered the .308 but if I had to do it over again this is what I would do:

Caliber: 6.5 Creedmore
Barrel Length: 24"
Stock: PRS
Trigger: Super Semi-Automatic Enhanced (SSA-E) Trigger
Muzzle brake: Surefire

If your going to suppress it get the switch block.

Take a look at the thread on the 6mm Creedmore in the Gap 10 I am debating on this or a 243wssm in a dtech upper.

I have the PRS stock on 2 ar15 rifles and have found the cheek adjustment to be unneeded but I am 6'2" so I added about an inch on the LOP. You can also ride it on sand bags or add a monopod.

barrel length - how far out are you looking to shoot? If its only out to 500 yards, go with a 16". If farther, 20"

caliber wise - if you reload, 308 or 260. If you don't, 308.


PRS stock - for precision shooting, i think its the best choice on a gas gun.

The Noveske switch block is not required to run it suppressed but I would recommend it. I don't have a muzzle brake. I always shoot it with a threaded on suppessor.

I just installed the Geissele Hi-Speed National Match-DMR trigger and love it.

I think the Magpul PRS Stock is worth the upgrade.

Here are the specs on mine, and I wouldn't do it any differently.

1. Magpul PRS
2. 308 fluted barrel cut to 17.5", threaded 5/8x24
3. Noveske switchblock - awesome
4. Geissele NM trigger
5. Cerakote in UD

For your stated purposes, then I'd go with one of the 6.5mm options with a 20-22" barrel. If you reload, then 260Rem, if you don't, 6.5 Creedmoor. You're going to love this gun.

Thanks again for the good info. I'm definitely a reloader. Do lots of long range reloading for a .308 bolt gun now.

I'm leaning towards the .260 just for something a little higher performance (flatter/better wind) than the .308 I have now.

What is the optimum barrel length for a .260? I've heard longer is better to get the best performance out of it, but eventually I'm going want to shoot it supressed, and would prefer to keep the overall length managable. Will I lose all the advantages the .260 has over a .308 if I go to an 18 or 20" bbl? The plan is to be able to shoot at 1000+. I can do pretty well now with a 20" .308 at 1000 yds, so hoping the .260 is a bit better. If a short .260 is only marginally better than an equivilent .308, I'll just stick to the .308 since I already have everything set up for reloading that.

An additional question: I've been at several Tac matchs recently where guys with Gas guns seem to have an inordinant amount of jams, mis-feeds, FTE, etc during timed events. Is there any advantage to a .308 over a .260 in terms of feed and eject reliability? Or are they the same animal as far as reliability?

GAP-10 .308 175gr SMK handloads @ 100yds. Mine is 18" running SAS Arbiter can. They love the 175SMKs although I hear they like Lapua as well. You will love the gun, no doubt about it!

I did not spring for trigger upgrade, but after shooting it some got a Geissele SDE for it and it is NICE!
