FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

You won't see a bit of difference for accuracy, I didn't. I prefer Forster, sold all my Redding dies. Forster's micrometer seater is resettable to zero, Redding's are not. Both are top notch dies.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

They both seat pills the same, I prefer Reddings markings over Forsters even though I still have 20/20 vision, and the resettable zero is nice on the Forster but I never use it, so if your vision is still GTG let your wallet decide.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

Six of one, half dozen of the other. Take your pick, they're both first-rate dies.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

check pricing........Forestor is 40% less and just as good......and if you wanna switch calibers...just by new insert from forestor...1/3 of what redding gets....

Ditto.

"Which is the better of the two for accuracy??"

Yes.

Good to know.

If you love the Coax press (whats not to love) The Forester dies already come with the proper die rings...

Wow, I've been buying Redding up until now, but this will make me try a Forster!

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

I have both.

When I bent the stem on my Forester die and they did not have the part in stock I went with Redding.

Eventually Forester got more of stems and I both two at a reasonable price. It was my fault that I bent the stem.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

I have both kinds. The main difference I notice is that one (Redding) has some white paint on the numbers of the micrometer making it a little easier to read. However, it is a very simple matter to put some paint into the numbers on the Forster dies.

Both dies provide the same amount of runout, and adjust as accurately as they should. I see NO DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE of either die.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

I have the Forster. The markings on mine are painted and quite easy to see. I just know it's 97.62 times better than the RCBS I used before. I chose the Forster because it's much less expensive that the redding.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

I have used both but the hardened stem on the Forester will last longer if you reload a lot. Both will load about equally as straight ammo as the other.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

I use both. Since the output quality is the same, I now usually buy the Forester since the price generally is better.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

I love me some Forster dies. They are all I use, and my ammo has never been the weak link in my shooting system (that honor still seems to be all mine). As others have stated, the Redding dies produce great loads, but for the money, I think Forster is hard to beat.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

I've got the Redding Comp seater in 7RM, the Forster in 338LM and I use the Hornady MicroSeating stem on 3-4 other seaters that I have.

They all perform well and are more precise in seating depth and even in 'returning to zero', so you can go wrong with any of them.

I do think that the Redding and Forster support more of the case when seating a bullet, so alignment might be a tad better with those two brands, although I've never done any empirical testing to determine if this is indeed a fact.

Price wise: Redding, Forster and then Hornady.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

There's no average difference between Forster and Redding seaters, shouldn't be, Redding copied the design when the patents ran out. There is a noticible difference in average runout with seating dies that don't control the case as well as the bullets.

Micrometer seating heads don't do a thing for the accuracy of the ammo, they are user aids that some guys like, some don't care. I don't care one way or the other, I'm going to adjust my seaters for the desired jump to the ogive anyway.

The Redding dies are resettable to zero

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

I have always ran forster ultra seater dies, till i got my first 6.5 cm. I had to get Redding for it, 209 bucks for a micrometer seater and type s full length bushing die ouch. I do like the Redding type s nk and fl bushing dies and own several. Mainly because forster did not have a bushing die til recently. The numbers are harder to see on the forster die, but i like the 25 thou per rev better then 50 thou. My grendel forster ultra seater has an aluminum micrometer head, it is alot lighter then my other forster dies. That was the last forster i bought, are they all going to aluminum? Was purchased about a yr ago from midway.

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

I prefer the Forsters. As others have noted, both choices are good ones...

Re: FORSTER ULTRA SEATER DIE VS REDDING COMPETITION

FORSTER........... 1/2 the price...just as good.......and you can buy inserts for different calibers for 1/4 the money......
