Where does it fall in regards to FGGM/LC and Winny? I don't have any Varget on hand to do the test with. Does anyone know?

Re: .308 Hornady match case capacity

If it helps ya in any way I have loaded Hornady match brass with 45gn's of Varget under a 168gn SMK.

Re: .308 Hornady match case capacity

45 grains is just about the max and will be a compressed load.

I'm switching powders, from 4895 to 4064. I just mentioned the varget thing because if you fill up a case full of Varget and that charge weigh in at a certain point ( I forget what it is) then you can determine the capacity from the charge...

ETA I will be using 178 BTHP and I think I will start at 40.5 grns working up in .3 until I get around 41.8 then it will be .2

The Hornady Match I have averages 158gr. The same as Win. cases and about 10grs. less than Remington and 20grs. less than Fed/LC cases.

Re: .308 Hornady match case capacity

I have a load of 44 varget and a 178 AMax in Hornady match brass seated to 2.8 50 for my Crusader that is badass.I have had it out to 800 yds with 5.5 in groups. This load is consistant and not too hot to kill your brass. But as always work it up for your self. The same load in Lapua brass has the same result. To get the same velocity in Win brass you have to bump it up to 45.they are running around 2700fps.I run the IMR 4895 in lake city for autos at 43 grs.I have nrver loaded a stick of 4064 but have heard good things.I just dont want to mess with what works.Hope this helps.Richard Ps I got these loads for Rob 01 on here.

    Have you measure nk thickness?

I'm would stay with Lapua due to more consistency and less step for prepare brass. No need to worried with primer pocket & flash hole.

I do not shoot out to 1,000 yards. Then do not concern about case capacity to add more powder to stay supersonic at 1,000 yards.

This is also my experience with Hornady TAP brass. Cases weigh 156-160 grains.
I use a .333-331"" bushing when loading them. They're close to Winchester.
