I apologize ahead of time if there are threads on this scope; I tried the search function and didn't find any - it's probably due to my own ineptitude, but still, I was unable to locate a thread or a post dealing with someone using the Leupold 1.1-8x24 Mark 8 CQBSS.

Is this as a great scope as the price reflects? The Leupold 1.1-8x24 Mark 8 CQBSS is priced right up there just a few hundred dollars shy of the S&B scope with the same zoom ratio.

Any opinions on this scope would be greatly appreciated.

First off, you can get the Leupold and you can't get the S&B. No telling when the S&B will be out. I have the Mark 8 and I had a 1-4 short dot. Both are nice scopes. My Mark 8 has the TMR reticle and isn't as ideal for shooting run and gun as the S&B, but in all other scenarios I like the Mark 8 better.

The S&B is not available, and in my opinion, having played with it, is not worth the money they are asking for it. In the area it shines, it pretty much mirrors their short dot. Maybe they will change it, which is part of the delay but who knows, they havent' been hitting their marks lately so no telling what's going on.

These are speciality scopes, for a specific purpose, so you have to balance the use when deciding which one you want to get. There is nothing the Short Dot can't do just as well, and if the question is higher power, the Leupold worked better up in that range.

The Leupold that mirrors the S&B in terms of daylight visible Dot I don't think they sell to the public. I had one, but because the daylight visible dot is included with a Horus, I returned it. I kept the TMR version as I wasn't needing the daylight visible dot. I can mount an RMR if I wanted to use it up close. The Leupold was much easier to work with at distance on my 16" GAP10, here hits were much easier over the S&B on the same rifle.

If you want a fast, 3GUN / Battle rifle optic for work inside 500, I liked the Vortex Razor which was 1/2 the price of both. Once the other reticles are released the Vortex will really be the one to beat here, only because some don't want the JM BDC reticle, but I found it worked fine. USO has their dual plane one coming out, once I have one of those we'll see, but again, use is key.

The mark 6 (1.1-6) I ordered 10 months ago was finally shipped last week. At a thousand less than the mark 8, all you lose is 7x and 8x. I'm thinking it will be a great alternative to both scopes you mentioned.

I just traded into a MK 8 with another Hide member who happened to want something I had.

If you have the money go for mark8 cqbss with H27-D reticle. You won't regret that.
