any reason (other then cost) to not get the 10 round mags for an AICS 308 chassis ?

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

Well, they protrude below the rifle far more than the 5 rounders. They feed just as well, I have three 5rnd mags and one 10rnd mag, sometimes the occasional match has a fast COF where the 10 round mag will give a slight advantage.

Some states limit the # of rounds you can have in your magazine. Be sure to check your state's hunting regs.

If you're shooting off a bench with an Atlas bipod with the legs kicked forward, you can change out a 5 rounder without disturbing the rifle.

Keeps the barrel a bit cooler too - if I have 10 rounds in the mag, I'm going to use them.

No function difference.

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

I always buy the 10 round mags because I have several 5 rounds that came with stocks or bottom metal. That being said, I like the 10 round for at the range. I do find that I have to lift stock of rifle a bit to change out the 10 rounders. Of course after 10 rounds I am ready to get off the rifle for a few minutes anyway

If you shoot from odd positions be aware that the 10 rounders protrude quite a bit while 5 rounders are flush with aics stocks. No feed issues from either.

I don't know about other but I find that my 10rd mag is much harder to feed. I have also read after putting some rounds through them it loosens up. I just don't ever use mine so maybe I just need to run more through it and it will be fine.

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

Honestly I prefer the 5 round mags, as the others have stated they give you more clearance. Plus, when going on a hike, the 10 rounder can really jab you in the ribs.

That said I have both, but the 5rnd gets used a lot more.

The 10 shot is great for a driven hunt but is awkward and just doesn't carry nicely. Might fit some swivel studs on the side of the stock to see if it improves. In most cases the 5 shot is fine for hunting.

How well do the Alpha mags work for you? In one SH thread there were several posts reporting feeding problems and in another praising their performance, did you have to 'tweak' them any to make them feed?

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

They have worked great for me right out the box with zero issues. I have 4 of them and run them in a Surgeon Scalpel .308. I have used them in several field matches with no problems and no tweaking. I can't speak to any issues others may have had, but I would not hesitate to buy more or to recommend them. If they ever come out with mags for my AI in 7mm Rem Mag I will buy those in a second.

I have several feeding through a CDI bottom metal. They are very high quality and feel beautifully. Other than the price, they are as goood as it gets.

Mine are all 10 rnd mags, i'm can't imagine the 5 rnd version would be any worse.

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

OK, I'm going to try a couple in my Surgeon DBM feeding a Defiance action and see how it goes, to save $20 per mag is a win/win if they'll work, Thanks

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

Five rounders are best for hunting where youre crawling around etc. While 10 rounders are great for picking off prairie dogs or from a bench where you're not in those more difficult situations.

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

I originally bought two 10 rd. magazines when I got my CDI DBM installed. Since then, I also purchased a 5 rd. mag. Now, I use the 5 rd. mag all the time but keep the two 10s loaded for the Zombie Apocalypse

I'll probably buy another 5 - it's just a much more convenient size in every way except capacity.

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

I have both .they both feed perfectly but I tend to use the 5 round mag more often for a few reasons.5 rounds is more than enough when Im hunting, easier in alternate/awkward positions.doesent dig into the back as much when carring rifle on my sling.Lastly I just dont like the look of the 10 round mag protruding so much!!( go figure)Unless Im shooting 10 round groups or something with a high round count cof I just tend to stick with the 5 rounder.

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

Did anyone else need to polish the inner lip of these magazines to keep them from fairly seriously scratching the brass? I was a little disappointed when I got mine and discovered this. Polishing them with fine emery paper only took a few minutes. But for the cost of these things... you'd think this wouldn't be needed.

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

Having just ordered my DBM I was puzzled by the same question. Decided to go qith the 5-rd. to start and will try to pick up a 10-rd. if I find an available source.

You and I will probably be like the rest of these guys someday...having multiples of both!

Re: AICS 308 magazines - 5 rounds vs 10 rounds

I have a left hand Remington LTR in 308. I have both magazines. I do not hunt but it is my end of the world machine. More is always better in situations not involved hunting.
