I recently ordered about $500 worth of Winchester brass(.243/.300 WM) from Midway. Got to reading the review just now and they're horrible.. Anyone know why the reviews would be so bad? Isnt Win brass Win brass???

Thanks,
S2K

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

IDK, I got some 243WIN brass yesterday and it was splendid, just finished lading 50 rounds for my 243 and every piece of brass pas perfect, no collapsed or split necks, hardly a scratch on any of them.

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

My .284 brass sucked. Crimps in some necks, oblong flash holes, rims too thick to fit into shell holder. I ended up trashing about 8-10 out of 100.

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

So whats up with all the hype regarding Win brass??? Why would win brass from midway suck but factory be ok? I am lost...

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

There ain't nothing wrong with your brass, prep it, load it, shoot it

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

I also disappoint with .308 Win brass.

The primer pocket was not consistency. Some pieces can't seat primer. Need to uniform both diameter and depth.

I'm would choose Federal brass.

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

I have had really good luck with Winchester brass. I have only purchased in .308 though.

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

Just curious, did you read through all the reviews? I tried to look it up, but on my comp Midways site just vapor locks, maybe need a updated in explorer or something.
I guess I'm asking because alot of folks bash a product because of shipping, or dealings with midway. It's not always about the product itself. Another thing, anyone, whether you buy or not can write a review, I've spanked a few items in my day without buying.
Quality control seems to be an issue with Rem brass these days also, especially if you buy a 500 or 1000 rd box, compared to 50rd bags. IMHO

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

Never had an issue either. Maybe 1 in 100 has a collapsed shoulder, but that's why they give you 101 right? If you're prepping your cases then don't worry about a thing. If not then buy lapua.

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

Makes me chuckle how people buy brass on the basis of price and then complain that "it sucks".

If I want to buy cheap brass I find that Winchester is about the best cheap stuff out there. I just plan on at least uniforming primer pockets, deburring flash holes, and before first shooting running an expander mandrel through the neck.

For next shooting I'll size, trim, and then turn the necks for uniformity.

If I want brass I don't have to do extra Prep on I buy Lapua. OK, so Lapua is 50% more expensive but it's 100% less trouble if perfection is your desire.

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

Alls I use in my 300winmag is Winchester brass. I run it through a collet neck die, uniform the primer pocket, and its ready to roll. Never had a problem with it. Gun shoots 1/2MOA or better..and I stretch its legs out to 1200yds

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

I just loaded some .243 and .35 with new winchester brass. The only brass prep I did was flash hole uniforming because the punched flash holes are heavily burred. Other than that I have no complaints.

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

Hell my Win .308 brass I've got from Midway was always clean and no problems in the pockets or flash holes. But they been out of stock for months.

I came across a guy who shoots a lot of .308 and he was selling me his once fired Hornady Match .308 brass. He'd ship too me 500 pieces at a time and I paid 20 cents apiece. I thought that was a great deal and I have lots of it now so.... Midway who?

When the 1x Hornady comes out of the SS media tumbler I feel like its brand new, yup...

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

I don't know if it makes any difference where Win brass is purchased. I bought my latest from Scheels and 6 out 100 didn't have enough brass to finish the necks. 20 more have loose pockets. I have gone to buying Lapua when on sale. Maybe I'm just not lucky.

Re: Bad Win Brass Review on Midway?

So help me if my NEW brass is as shitty as some of you guys describe...

If you don't want to be sick about it then be sure not to check it for being concentric \ straight or neck thickness variance. Last bunch of WW brass I got was horrible in that respect.
