I have a .308 AR reciever DPMS style and a .223 reciever on the way. I was looking at the jigs some of the shops are selling. Are they really needed for doing the machine work on a mill? I have been looking at some reciever prints and it looks simple enough to locate the trigger and hammer pin holes as well as milling the slots for the fire control parts.
My question is, are the jigs one of those things that are just worth the money for simplicity sake or is it for people who do not have the ability to accurately locate and create holes?

Not necessary but definitely more simplistic. I was going to go the manual method but after more thought decided to go with the jigs...just easier (what happens if I'm a few thousandths off on my starting point?)

I'll just be drilling mine with a mill bit....unless my jig kit comes with reamers.

what lower are you using...where did you get it? I'm still waiting to hear back from my supplier...may drop the order if I can't get a response in the next couple days.

Lowerrecievers.com I got 2 in .308 and a .223 just for the heck of it. The jig seems cheap enough but I also do not plan on making many of these so if it is not needed I did not want to buy one. I have a manual mill and a cnc mill in my shop so machining will not be a big deal. However I have been looking around the web on blueprints and have seen a few with varying specs. I think I will order the jig just to make sure I dont end up with issues. If anyone around denver wants to do a build party let me know. It may be a while untill I can source my parts unfortunately.
