178 HPBT match and rem 700???????

Has anyone been able to get these to shoot out of a Factory remmy barrel at mag length? My research is showing me that they don't like jumping to the lands. Can anyone confirm that? I bought 300 of these because of the BC, but at the time I didn't know about the accuracy issues when jumping to the lands.

I shot them in my 700 SPSS with 2000MR, oal was 2.830", first lot I bought shot pretty good, last lot had some diagonal stringing for some reason, they(last lot#) do shoot very well in my 700 Sporter with s/s 24" barrel(10 twist). This is how the sporter 308 shot them out to 200yds. 2.830" will fit the magazine.

Nope, tried Varget with the 168AMXs and it sucked in both rifles. 2000MR or CFE223 should work best for the 178s.

I use Varget with all my .308 bullets and it works great. 44grns is what I use with the 178BTHP. Don't start there though. Start around 43grns and work up. 42grns is the listed Min and 45grns is the listed Max.

Never heard of a jump problem with them. I load mine about .020" off the lands though but it might be tough with a factory rifle. Load some up and try them. Only way you will find out.

I shoot em....4064. 20" 1-10 ltr...consistantly better than me..just load em to the mk 316 recipie an tweak it for your rifle...hope this helps..

I shoot them out of my gap-10 at mag length and they work great.
i am runing them with varget in winchester and lake city brass and cci br primers.

I have used both the 178 BTHP and the 178 AMAX's with Varget and have had great success. I got up to 46.5 gr. of Varget w/o pressure signs and always right at 1" groups at 200yds. I load them to 2.810" and my chamber length is 2.842". Having said this they are jumping and have had no issues.

What is the twist rate of your barrel? They may shoot better for others because of the 1:10 Twist!

My fears were unfounded!

178gr hpbt, 44.0gr varget, coal 2.900, 5 shots

squares are 1 inch

Entire group measures .830 in., the three in the center measure .113 in.

I think I found my node!
