Just picked up a Sig 716P from my FFL. Paid $1829.00 landed . Now I'm thinking since I have a couple 308 AR's that selling it NIB for a profit ( double ) might be a good idea. If the bill that scumbag Finestien is trying to pass may outlaw transfers , I might never be able to sell it in the future. In the past I always bought guns and enjoyed them for a while and then sold the ones I didn't like a lot. Prices my go up or down ,but not being able to sell them altogether is makeing me think about selling all but a few while I can . I don't even know if I'm going to like the Sig716P ,and I know it will be worth less used . I wonder how much less it is worth used ? anyone one have some imput good ,bad or ugly on it ?

Re: Shoot or sell ?

You'll still be able to sell them...they'll just have to be pushed through and FFL. If you're comfortable with the collection you've got...put it up. if it doesn't move...no skin off your back. Invest in ammo/reloading supplies with the funds. They are going fast as well.

Re: Shoot or sell ?

Bravosector:

According to the feinstein bill, transfer would in fact be banned - even to heirs.

Unlikely that it will pass (and it's very unconstitutional even then), but that is what they are pushing for.

Re: Shoot or sell ?

My opinion and thats all it is, is this. Sell it to a friend or family member for what you paid for it and have them join the NRA and write to their congressman. Try and sell it to someone who wants to get into shooting for the first time. Lets try and grow the shooting sport by bringing in fresh blood.

I really can't blame people for wanting to make a profit it's your money, but for me personally taking advantage of pending legislation to make a profit especially when you don't agree with that legislation just isn't right. It's like feeding off your own kind.

Re: Shoot or sell ?

Answering the OP's question....
To me, a weapon that is well kept and slightly used (fired a few times) holds it value to near new cost.

The 716 like many others is bringing high dollar compared to a few weeks ago.

I'd be one to hang on to purchases but if you have better shooting similar rifles do consider that if the bill passes as is and none can be legally transfered (sold) the weapon becomes worthless to all but the current owner.
During the 1994 ban transfers were possible and 'pre-ban' weapon value shot up drastically.

Now as mentioned above take the time to contact your congressman at :

If your not sure what to say take a look at a few posts here.

Re: Shoot or sell ?

The NFA is backlogged 6-9 months as it is. It will never happen. Want to sidestep the "heirs" concern. Form a trust.

- The BATFE would be on the 5-year plan to list/register just the weapons identified in the bill
- The States: They have a say. Yes, the feds and withhold dollars, but this will come up on the house/senate
- Enforcement: Cops don't want to do it/Won't do it. The BATFE is woefully unprepared now, and in no way, shape or form prepared for the enforcement measures of this

If you'd like to makes some $$$ now and put it towards whatever you desire it's yours and your freedom to do so. If transfers are still authorized, and I think you're in the green there, the weapon you have now will be a "pre-ban" weapon and will have gone up in value anyway.

Re: Shoot or sell ?

To all:

Selling or not selling is a business or personal choice. I will not fault an individual for receiving a return on their investment.

As far as the legislation. Any belief that the more draconian aspects of gun control won't or can't happen is short sighted. Legislation such as this has great public appeal right now. Even 2d Admendment advocates in congress have changed sides. The most serious threat comes from members of congress who look at this from a political perspective. Remember, the number one job of any elected office is to get reelected. They will say and do anything to achieve that goal. They are the most self serving individuals in this country.

Rather than speculating about the likelihood of some restrictive legislation becoming law or whether it will be enforced, we need to voice our concern to our elected officials at all levels now and become members of organizations who will articulate the same publically(the NRA comes to mind). If we don't the "Snipers Hide Semi-Auto Rifles" section will become moot.

Re: Shoot or sell ?

I have a rule when it comes to my guns - if I think about selling it, then I sell it. I want to be 100% satisfied/confident in what I have, so anything short of that must go....

Apply if necessary...

Re: Shoot or sell ?

You guys that say it won't/can't happen are some of the same guys that thought the "rush" in the past was ridiculous and that people shouldn't go out and buy fearing political turmoil before. Now it seems all but eminent at times.

As far as the people trying to "rush" now, they were warned months and months ago to buy "buy now". I don't feel sorry for them having to pay gougers. Think of it as the "head in the sand" tax.

Re: Shoot or sell ?

I would not sell it. Unless your short on cash. You may never be able to buy one again.
