It may be time to build another rifle just because

I have a 1/2 off certificate for a Rock Creek Barrel, any contour, any caliber.

I have a 308 (Well, I have 2, plus my dad has 2). I like the long barrel life, easy access to factory match ammo and loading components.

I love shooting my bolt guns a lot. I don't want to build a barrel burner unless it is a hunting rifle. IF I do that, it will be in a magnum anyways. I have a Savage LRH in 300 win mag, but it shoots pretty decent. If I decided to build it, I would likely rebuild it in a 338 flavor with plenty of muzzle break.

I love shooting in general, target, steel, competition, hunting. I don't love one more than the other - I would consider building just about anything.

I know that the other consideration is accessories (boolits, powder, primers, dies, all that crap). Unless I rebuild into another 308, then I will have to buy all that stuff anyways.

What would you build?

30.06 would be another option. New heavier bullets make the added capacity work.

.260 is the hot one right now, burns barrels a little faster, but still acceptable.

280AI. Or 284. Good brass for both and can push 162 amax's around 2900 to 2950 and 168 bergers around 2850 to 2900. With both having high bc's.

6.5x284. It is a bit of a barrel burner, but its a flat shooter.

Re: It may be time to build another rifle just because

All my 308 brass got resized into 260rem after I put a 260rem barrel on a 700 action so be warned.

have you contacted Rock Creek yet? i have a half off certificate as well, but i saw this on their site

"As of November 1 , 2012 we are no longer taking orders on cut rifled barrels. This is due to the overwhelmingly high order volume we currently have, we apologize for the inconvenience. All current orders will be filled and shipped when completed. We will still be taking orders for button rifled rimfire barrels."

Justinbaker, I did contact Rock Creek. They specifically said they WILL HONOR that certificate. Just let them know what you want.

We still honor the certificate here so just call me and order it.

I already have .260, 7-08, .223, .308, and .300 WM. So my vote would be 6XC!

Re: It may be time to build another rifle just because

Just ordered a Rock Creek 6.5 for my .260 build yesterday. Come on in, the water is fine.

6.5 Creedmoor
Buy some Hornady factory 140 Amax ammo and have fun.
