I found a great deal on a 5.7 FN pistol not too long ago and I need some ammo. A month ago this stuff was $30 a box. Now (if you can find it) it is anywhere from $50-$65 per box. Has anyone seen any at reasonable prices??? or do I just pay for it and be glad I found it in the first place

Thanks

Re: Reasonable 5.7x28 ammo

Start Reloading. At prices like that it'll pay for itself in no time. I use the Hornady AP press and would recommend it to anyone looking at reloading. I just loaded up 100 rds of 5.56 in less than an hour last night, including the time to setup the dies and change from my .308 setup. Setting up the dies for the first time takes the most time. Then you just change everything over to go inbetween calibers. If you do your loads properly they will be better than just about anything from the factory. The only reason to buy factory is convenience. If that's your case then good luck right now is not a good time buy.

Re: Reasonable 5.7x28 ammo

Fastforward, I will keep you in mind... I wouldn't hold my breath though!

Hillbilly, I bought a press about 6 months ago and have not opened the box yet. I really don't have the space right now to get into it but if prices don't change.... I guess I will have to put an addition on the house! May still come out cheaper in the long run.

Re: Reasonable 5.7x28 ammo

Cabelas had it on sale for less than $24/box earlier today. Might be worth looking into.

Re: Reasonable 5.7x28 ammo

+2 on reloading
IMO, get the gun, buy as many boxes ammo as you can afford and will reasonably shoot in a few months. Then when the hysteria dies down and prices drop, buy more.

Re: Reasonable 5.7x28 ammo

I am an avid reloader, but have seen much bad press on loading the 5.7. It does void the warrenty on the gun. Likely that is not an issue anyway. The story is that the case is very thin and light, which certainly appears to be the case when you heft them. Pressure is really high and that makes it a very bad combination. Single use case is how it is described. I never loaded mine.

LMAO, that had to have been a mistake.

5.7 ammo has been fucking impossible to get from my distributors for months...even before the election I've had customers begging me to sell them a case, 5 cases, 10 cases...and been unable to get even one or two cases to put out for sale.

Now? Not a fucking chance. None. Zip, zero, zilch. The only thing keeping prices from going truly absurd on the Five-seven and the PS90 is the fact that most people have figured out that they're expensive bats right now.

Re: Reasonable 5.7x28 ammo

This was one round that surprised me back during the 2008 election as I was still able to get it at a number of places for around $20-22 a box without issue when 5.56 and 7.62 dried up and went thru the roof.

Think that this time around alot more people are running scared and buying whatever is out there.

Re: Reasonable 5.7x28 ammo

This is a round that we'll wait for 90-180 days to settle...if ever. FiveSeven handguns are selling well north of $2,000. Ammunition is selling a $1 per round. Ammo in this caliber won't be available, at a reasonable value, for some time. Get it while you can...or roll the dice and wait. I think it will come back down again....with a wait.

Re: Reasonable 5.7x28 ammo

I had my NIB 5.7 w/extra mags & 550 rounds of ammo listed here on the Hide with a lot of PM's indicating they would take it and then backing out of the deal.

I ended up selling everything on another board for $1,500.00 shipped & insured. A day late and a dollar short as the old saying go's. I was really surprised nobody jumped on it here
