Hi all,

several weeks ago I posted a link to the duracoat video for my M&Pc. I just took it out for the first live-fire test after a 4-week curing period. If your interested in the results, feel free to follow the link below.

Re: Duracoat Durability Check

Duracoat is good stuff, i use it on stainless parts or on stocks/anything that can't be baked.

I use Brownells teflon/moly on parts that can be baked such as chromoly barrels, actions and on aluminum. The Brownells teflon moly requires more work since parts have to be baked, but it has slightly better abrasion resistance.

Re: Duracoat Durability Check

I have used both dura coat and cerakote. I strongly prefer the cerakote. It is way more durable than duracoat and has more of a factory look and less of a painted look.

I wish I never refinished my Sig p228 slide with duracoat. It just doesn't look right and its scratched and peeling in some areas.

And before you ask, I do know how to prep and paint. I have painted many cars over the years and was professionally trained to do so..

Re: Duracoat Durability Check

You probably know more about painting than I do. I have always hated painting and the few things I've painted show it! That being said, I've been working with duracoat for going on two years. I can tell you there is a definate "learning curve" associated with the product (refer to my "lessons learned" videos on YT). My results have gotten progressively better and better. I think the M&Pc looks like a factory applied finish. I also like the rust preventive qualities, and ease of application. the wide variety of colors and camo patterns are icing on the cake. I have no problems with cerakote, I just prefer duracoat.

Re: Duracoat Durability Check

Glad you guys are having a better experiance. I had an 870 professionally coated to protect it because I use it pretty hard in crappy weather on a 4 Wheeler, trapping and so on. That shit started coming off anywhere it was rubbed, action bars, sight ramp, action, trigger guard. Was a big waste of money, especially waiting a month+ to cure and then wearing like shoe polish.

Re: Duracoat Durability Check

Duracoat is crap. Go with a thermal finish such as Cerakote, KG/Norrels...Cerakote is the best.

Re: Duracoat Durability Check

I actually like Duracoat. Have you used it?
