I was just looking at these online, they look pretty good and the specs are submo. The only thing that is holding me back is the price, $3400. I was wondering if anyone has spent anytime behind this rifle. If I get one Ian sure its going to be in .300 mag

So they made a few changes and doubled the price tag? Before the AR30 was a great buy to get into a 338LM but 300WM not so much. I would have to say they just pushed the price tag way further than what most people will pay.
If you want a nice 300WM you can get a Sako TRG 42 for less money and it will be without a doubt a better rifle.
Unless you NEED the WM and plan to shoot 1200+ yards regularly I would go with an AI AE in 260, 243, or 308 for that kind of money. The 260 and 243 doesn't give up a whole lot to the 300WM ballistically, it just doesn't have the ass behind it when it gets there like a 300WM with a 200+ grain bullet does. Targets won't know the difference though and the 260 and 243 are also much cheaper to shoot.

Personally I wouldn't spend the money on one. They're great guns but I don't see the value in it for a 300 mag...far too many guns available in that caliber for significantly less.
have I shot one, yes, many years ago when they first came out. Not a bad gun, it shot well just nothing special in my opinion.

If he's considering the AR30 because of the reliability stand point then it's a much better choice than a 700. The AR30 has a side bolt release, a very good extractor design and the bolt handle won't pull off in your hand. Remington's bolt release is a weaker design, their extractor is one of the weakest designs, and the bolt handles are soldered on. Comparing a R700 to a AR30 is pretty much apples to oranges. Sure it may shoot as good but thats where it ends, the AR30 is a more robust rifle without a doubt.
That's why I suggest the TRG42. It has all the same features of the AR30 action and then some. The trigger, stock, and mag system are also a big improvement over the AR30's.

I have an original AR30 in .338Lapua. I think it was this forum or another that I found someone who rebarreled theirs and the action was described as "playdough". The action is like a big Savage with a proprietary magazine system, though the new ones look more comfortable and are priced accordingly with the updates.
PLENTY of other good options out their for the same money or less. (Personally I would build up a Badger M2008 action, other than that you can buy an older AI AWSM, RND Edge 2000, or a Sako TRG42.)
