I'm continuously surprised how many companies (even the big ones) are putting out "new technology" optics yet still have mil/moa. Is the tooling conversion that much to move to mil/mil and moa/moa? I see a lot of scopes out there that I'd like to give a shot for different applications, but since going mil/mil I see no need to go backwards and make life hard. Or why not go to a moa/moa reticle instead of the mix bag? Just really surprising to me, not like this is a new realization. Rant complete.. Happy Sunday!

Head out to any range in 'Merica and survey the line as to their level of understanding of the math related to MILs......

Good luck

That doesn't surprise me, you can't explain base 10 or the metric system to most Americans no matter how superior it is.

The one that really bugs me is the scopes that are not even matched, mil reticule with moa knobs.....just silly, at the very least have the reticule match the knobs.

As soon as you tried to tell them that one click was 1 cm at 100 meters they'd be totally lost and demand their money back. Even if you showed them how much easier the distance/height and range estimating calculations are working in base 10 with a mil/mil scope.

Plus these big companies unless they are doing military contract work, they know that 95% of the people buying their tactical scopes have no idea how to use them properly anyway, so all the effort and expense to go mil/mil or moa/moa doesn't impact sales.

It is getting better, but very very slowly.

Agreed, matching turrets is what I meant more than anything.

If it sells why change it is probably there theory

Re: Mil/Mil - why take companies so long to switch?

I think it is just a matter of catching up. It is easy to just change a reticle and throw some high cap turrets and call it a Tactical scope. Then again, some of the first military scopes were midot with moa turrets. Are there any companies that still sell the mil/moa exclusively? I have seen early Weavers, some Leupolds, SWFA with the combo, but they also have Mil/Mil versions as well.

Re: Mil/Mil - why take companies so long to switch?

The scope buyers on this site are much more savvy about such matters than the average guy buying a scope. Just a matter of sellers selling to an uneducated (about scopes) buying public.

Re: Mil/Mil - why take companies so long to switch?

I honestly don't see much difference either way. My mil/moa scoped guns have the trajectory chart printed in moa. My mil/mil scoped gun has the trajectory chart printed in mil.

I print the wind info per 5mph in mils on both charts since i hold for wind rather than adjust the turret.

I calculate distance using the mil reticle, look at the chart taped to the stock, turn the knob to the correct setting, hold for wind and let rip.

Re: Mil/Mil - why take companies so long to switch?

This subject is like kicking a dead horse. I have used mil/mil,moa/moa,mil/moa. I have had no problems with any of them. They all have pro's and con's, and if the guy on the firing line next to you does not understand what scope he is using......who gives a shit. I don't
