I just got one in 300 Win Mag on a trade and wanted to here what opinions people had of them. From the reviews it should have good accuracy. It was made in 1980 but looks to have only a few rounds through her. Stainless steel and McMillian stock. Anyone have a chance to play with one like this? Trying to decide if I should keep it or trade it off. Thanks

Should be a shooter but you wont know till you try it.

Re: Winchester Classic Sharpshooter M70

It's a piece of crap. I will give you $50 for it.

Kidding aside, go and shot it and see if you like it. Then you can make an informed decision of what to do with it.

Good luck,

Guns

Re: Winchester Classic Sharpshooter M70

Problem is it doesn't have mounts rings or the scope and I don't have the free cash to set her up properly. Anyone have any issues with theirs?

Re: Winchester Classic Sharpshooter M70

I have a set of rings and mounts, Leupold, 1", if you need.
The gun is from Win custom shop, Schneider barrel and mac stock. They were highly prized rifles, I'd shoot it.
1980 date doesn't sound right though, maybe 1990?

Re: Winchester Classic Sharpshooter M70

I'd agree on the date being wrong. Claw extractors did not come back until 1992. Stock looks like HS precision to me, but photo is slightly out of focus. Could be custom shop, but not before 1992.

Re: Winchester Classic Sharpshooter M70

I was going off the below link for the date. Can someone help date it?

I was off a number my SN is G1457XX, barrel is marked Classic Sharpshooter on the bolt side.
Never owned a H.S. Precision or a McMillian how would I tell the difference? I don't have any real custom rifles and this is my first Winchester I've owned. Don't know much about them.

Re: Winchester Classic Sharpshooter M70

This is McMillan a2 stock installed by winchester custom shop. If you are interested in selling it I would be ver y interested in buying it.
