I am new to the tactical side of long range shooting optics and I recently purchased a Remington 700SS 5R tactical rifle in .308 and a Nightforce F1 3.5-15X50mm scope. I do not want a QD system for the scope rings.

What are some of the most durable and reliable bases and scope rings for my setup? Thank you in advance for any info you can offer. So far I have been recommended NF rings or Badger.

Nothing wrong with nightforce rings and base.

Check out Seekins rings and bases. Everything you need with a lower price tag than Badger and NF.

Thanks for the responses guys. So I guess I will need a base installed on the rifle with a picatinny rail and my scope rings will clamp to the picatinny rail? Is there a 1 piece direct mount or are seperate base and ring combos the way to go?

Re: NF mil-spec F1 on a Rem 700SS 5R tactical

I have used DNZ game reaper mounts on R700 rifles. They allow one mount without the need for separate base/rings. They even make one with 20MOA cant. Separate base/rings just gives you a bit more "wiggle room" to get eye relief set up just the way you want it.

Talley's new tactical line.

OP, that is a great setup for getting into long range shooting. As green338 stated above, a 20 MOA base and rings from any of those manufacturers will get you out and shooting.

A one piece mount, Night force is good but WAY to tall even with their lowest they make. I have one and keep it on a rifle with a quality adjustable cheek piece. As posted above DNZ game reaper is a great mount. I have several of these. They weigh right about the same as what a standard steel rail from badger would… So you have a 50% weight reduction in your mounting system. DNZ is a quality product. When I first tried one I was a bit leery due to the corny name and two screw attachment on each ring but once I had the mount in hand and read the instructions/literature that came with it I think it is one of the best mounts out there if a guy wants to reduce weight. Here is a few pics of my R700 with DNZ products. Also, the lowest 20 MOA mount is a med and will work on a factory varmint barreled action with a NF 3.5-15x50mm seen here in the first two and the last two with a 40mm odj….

I have had one on my 308 tactical now for the last two years and it has seen between 700-800 rounds durring that time. Never had a probelm with the mount/scope... on the range or in the field hunting.

I should add the scars on that last pic are not from this mount nor me, it was a used scope and came to me in that condition.

Thanks for the input fellas. If I go with the NF direct mount from the opticsplanet.com link, would the low work with my 50mm scope or do I need the medium height? I read coyotes post above about the medium being the lowest 20 moa mount but NF has a 20moa mount in low, med and high.

Re: NF mil-spec F1 on a Rem 700SS 5R tactical

The NF should come with rings.

I wouldn't go with a 1-piece. I'd just run a 1-piece 20 MOA base and the NF rings. That way you can use the rail for something else if you ever need to, as well as move the scope later if you need to. You may want to move the scope one notch forward or backward to fit your seasonal clothes. You may want to add a level, an ACI, etc. Can't do any of that with a direct mount.

Thanks. Those are good points. I believe my rifle is a short action so is this the NF base you are referring to for my application? http://shop.milehighshooting.com/Nightforce-A115-Rem-700-S-A-1pc-20-MOA-Base-NF-A115.htm

Thanks, I am anxious to get to the range. I have deer, hog & coyote hunted for over 20 years so I am comfortable with 100-250 yard shots but have never attempted a kill shot at over 250 yards. I'm hoping the new scope will help with the 300-500 yard range.

Re: NF mil-spec F1 on a Rem 700SS 5R tactical

The NF base in the Mile High link you posted should work well. Not sure about the Mil-Spec F1's but the regular F1's come with NF Ultra Light medium height rings. I have run both the Seekins Vortex low height and the NF UL mediums. With my target rifle (long action with MTU barrel), The 50 mm obj bell had sufficient clearance on the barrel, but my front bikini cap did not fit. With the NF mediums the bikini cover fits and cheek weld is still gtg.

Re: NF mil-spec F1 on a Rem 700SS 5R tactical

When I ordered my nightforce base the lowest they had at the time was the 1" direct mount and that was the one I was referring too, looks like they must have listened to my constructive criticism. That lower is new (from when I ordered a couple years back) and at .885" would be more than enough for a 50mm NXS to clear the barrel with a little room to spare.
