I took my new sbr and suppressor to the range for the first time today and got very confused. I shot a mix of handloads hornady 110 sp, nosler 125 bt, Sierra 220 mk, and factory Remington 220 subs. I was shooting at 50 yards. groups without suppressor where pretty good around 1.5"-2". Once I put the suppressor on I wasn't even on paper! I had to aim around 2' low to get paper? I did not have a lot of time so I didn't mess with it too much but once I pulled the suppresor off I was back on paper. I shot un suppressed, suppressed, un suppressed, suppressed every time repeatable. I also noticed that with the sub loads it looked like the few bullets I got on paper with suppressor key holed they didn't keyhole without. Gun details are seekins upper/lower cheap mil spec bolt, Houston armory 8" 1 in 8 twist barrel. Please give your input going to load up some more ammo and try again next weekend.

All of them where the subs where hitting over the top of the backer looked like 2-3' the supers probably 8-10" high didn't have a tape measure those are rough estimates. I have shot my dpms lr308 with this can and it printed a little low and right maybe 1.5" I think @ 100 yd. Only shot a box with the dpms. I just got the suppressor and only used it twice so far. I'm puzzled.

Looking through the barrel with suppressor on it looks concentric. I looked through the suppressor with a flashlight and can't see any rubbing to indicate contact with bullet. I would think if the bullet is touching even lightly it would be very noticeable?

Re: Poi shift tbac 30ba 8" 300 blackout

That's not normal. Do not shoot the upper with the suppressor again until the root problem is figured out and fixed. Since it works fine on your DPMS (1.5" shift is in the range of normal), this points to the barrel causing the problem. All the cases we've examined where there was excessive shift or baffles strikes have been the result of improperly threaded muzzles.

We'd be happy to chat about what you're seeing and how to fix it; however, we'll all be at the SHOT Show this week-- back in the office the next Monday.

hope this helps
Zak

Thanks for replying zak. Definitely don't want to mess up my new can! I will be shooting again next weekend and try to gather some more concrete data and if I can't figure anything out I will be calling you. Thanks again.

We strongly advise to not shoot the can on that upper until the (what appears to be) problem with the barrel is rectified. If you're already getting keyholes with some rounds I wouldn't be surprised if there is some subtle contact happening, check the endcap for gold streaks. I wouldn't want further experiments to cause damage to your can.

I won't shoot the can on that gun anymore till I talk to ya. Thanks for the help and great customer service through the whole process I must have called you 10 times when I was shopping for this can and could not be more satisfied with your customer service. And I love the can!!!!

Obviously your 30BA is faulty. Transfer it to me for disposal. ;-)

Re: Poi shift tbac 30ba 8" 300 blackout

Yeah kinda sounds like a bad thread job to me. A guy will be amazed at what a difference a goofed thread job will do with a can on vs a brake. Hope you find the problem and know that you are in good hands with TBAC. They have hands down the best customer care I have ever seen.

Re: Poi shift tbac 30ba 8" 300 blackout

Just got done cleaning up the gun from shooting yesterday and I took a q tip and wiped inside the end of my suppressor and the black coating is gone on the bottom edge when it is attached to the gun. I couldn't see the mark because of soot it is very light but does look like bullet is making contact with suppressor! This really sucks! Oh well that's how it goes sometimes. What are my options to fix this? Is there a way to re thread or straighten the threads? Or is a new barrel the only option?

It needs to be sent to a well known smith and checked on a lathe.

Re: Poi shift tbac 30ba 8" 300 blackout

Barrels can often be fixed very simply by someone who knows what they are doing.. but there are a few ways they can be screwed up that are not fixable.

From what you've said, the strike/graze doesn't sound like it caused any damage. We can always look at it if you want us to.

Response time this week will be poor because we're all in Vegas for SHOT Show.

thanks
Zak
