well, not sure what to do. have rcbs FL sizeing die in 308, bad thing thing is the lock ring covers the vent hole in the die. after about 30 rounds it starts to dent the case . i have to stop and clean the die .

..... anyone had this happen ?

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

savagehunter44,

You're using too much lube. Disregard the vent hole location, and just use a bit less lube.

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

a drill !!? im not that brave, guess i could lay off the lube a bit. anyone use spray lube , always used lee sizing lube. works good, looking 4 a faster way

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

I use dillon spray lube. Apply generously and wait a few mins to air dry a tad, then go to town.. Just go slow because you will every once in a while get a case with a light amount of lube on it and you can get a stuck case. You can feel it happening before its too late though if you go slow.

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

Hornady One-Shot is another good spray lube. Same thing...wait just a bit for it to dry.

The Lee lube is great, but it does say DO NOT put any lube on the shoulder.

Have to agree with him on that one.

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

i never put any lube on the shoulder, the dent is just below it, try 2 post a pic later

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

Reddings have no hole in them and work fine.

You are getting lube build up.

Go to a lube pad and hang the shoulder/neck over the edge when you roll them.

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

ok i need some votes, Imperial Wax , rcbs spray , i ask about lube about case lubes drgrading powder because you have to use a little inside the case neck. iv heard Imperial Wax is some of the best but takes more time, seems like it would be a mess clean off cases 2

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

The cases should be cleaned or tumbled after sizing. Hornady oneshot is good on smaller brass. Dillon, Frankfurt Arsenal bottle sprays are good also, last longer than a can of oneshot.
Turn your cases upside down in your loadinng block and spray the bottom of case, necks and shoulders don't really need lube.

Don't buy the RCBS spray, it is way too thick, sucks.

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

I use Imperial sizing wax and I can tell you that a little bit goes a long way. Normally I just get my fingers greased up pretty good and then the amount that is on my fingers is usually good for about 10 cases or so before I have to add just a little bit more. I just smear the wax on the cases as I grab them from the loading tray and on their way into the press.. As far as the inside of the case necks go, I just spray a bore brush with one shot and then run the brush down into the case neck and that seems to work pretty well.

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

I use the Dillon lube for full length sizing and Imperial for neck sizing. But I've used about all of them. With the Dillon, I put my cases in a gallon zip lock bag, spray them, roll them around some, dump them out on a towel (not moma's either) let them dry and size them. I do wipe the neck and shoulder off with a towel. The vent hole in your die should breathe even with the ring over it, but its not really even needed. Most lubes work ok, but all of them will cause dents if they are applied to heavy. Wiping the neck and shoulder off helps. Lightman

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

rcbs sells an extended shell holder for their competition line. It's identical to any other shell holder other than its taller. Using it during sizing would mean you wouldn't have to screw the die in nearly as far and the lock ring wouldn't cover up the vent hole

Re: rcbs die , ticking me off

Yes drill the lock ring. I am with the others on to much lube. I like Imperial but not for volume loading. It would take forever.
