Looking for opinions on best scope for under $500 for coyote hunting at 350 yards and closer. Mostly dusk and dawn with some night hunting. Going on a 243. I have looked at the vortex viper and viper hs in 4-16x44 and x50.

Re: Best coyote hunting scope for $500 or less

I've found the lower power scopes work better for me as most of the coyotes I've shot have been less than 60 yards. I started coyote hunting with a 6-18 and found it very difficult to track a moving coyote on 6x at close range. I have a 1-6 on order for coyote hunting but I would also like to try a 2.5-10.

I found the same thing using 6x on a 6-18! If I had left my 1.5-4.5x24 on I would have nailed both coyotes that day

I like being able to use illumination. This is the best scope I can think of close to your price but it's $100 more.

I maybe new here but im not new to forums. If you do not have input to my question no reason to post here.

The 2.5-10 seems like a better option maybe I am just over thinking my options. I may spring for the pst but may stick with the HS.

Re: Best coyote hunting scope for $500 or less

I just ordered a 2.5-10x44 PST fro Scott at Liberty Optics. Give him a call. He can beat that $599 price I imagine and he had a couple in stock. Think you're better off with as little magnification on the low end as possible. I currently have a 2.5-10 Weaver on my hunting rifle and have never had any issues find animals in FOV. Killed a doe at about 35 yards with it this year. It is the scope below if you're not looking for a ranging reticle. I have a Leupold vx3 on another rifle and prefer the Weaver, but looking forward to trying the PST on my AR.

Re: Best coyote hunting scope for $500 or less

If you watch the classified here, you can catch a 3-9 trijicon accu-point for around $500 +/-.

For low light hunting, the dot reticles are bad ass. I've put an amber dot 3-9 on my 17 fireball and an amber #4 1-4 on my 300 blk suppressed and wouldn't change a thing. no batteries to run out and just enough light at the reticle that it stands out against a coyote or fox for a good shot.

I just picked up a 2.5-10 accupoint from another 'hider to put on my new 22-250 i had built.

Good luck with it,
Breeze

There are hundreds of pages relevant to your question, all are quickly pulled up with the google custom search. Your question has been asked and answered many times, with many different outcomes. So my input was quite relevant.

Re: Best coyote hunting scope for $500 or less

My main coyote rifle has a USO 1.8-10x on it. I think it is the best all-around magnification range for hunting. It is out of your price range, but the Vortex 2.5-10x would be a good choice

Re: Best coyote hunting scope for $500 or less

I first had a 4-12 Vortex diamondback and that just didnt cut it. I now have a vortex viper PST 1-4 on my m&P 15 and love it! I prefer the lower power scope just because the target acquisition is so quick which in my experience has been very helpful for coyote hunting. Follow up shots are lightning fast with the PST and I feel it does pretty decent in the low light with how the illuminated reticle is set up. As far as distance shooting goes I initially was worried about having the 1-4 but now since Ive used it, a 300 or 400 yard shot is not bad at all. I even took it out west and shot prairie dogs at 500yds.

Re: Best coyote hunting scope for $500 or less

IMO hit ebay up for an older luepold 3-9 or 4.5-14x50.

Re: Best coyote hunting scope for $500 or less

I would pick an illuminated straight six power with nice glass.

Re: Best coyote hunting scope for $500 or less

Please post your reivew on this as I'm considering this scope on a very soon build.

Re: Best coyote hunting scope for $500 or less

I'm running the Vortex 2.5-10x44 mil/mil. This has worked great for me so far. I have shot out to 6-700 with this scope so far.
