So I am now waiting for my thunderbeast 338BA can that i am going to use on my 338 and 308. To use this can i have to replace my current stock savage brakes on both rifles.

I know that anything that touches the barrel can potentially require a hole new load workup, however I wanted to hear peoples actual experiences.

In your actual experience, when i swap my brakes for the thunderbeast brakes, will i need to do a complete new workup, or will i most likely be fine?

Obviously, i will see the results right away as soon as i shoot my load with the new brake. However i need to know now before that, so I know whether i should stop making my current reloads( i like to always have 200-300 in reserve).

My buddy's TRG had minimal impact shift from his factory brake when he screwed on his Thunderbeast. No new load development was required for him. I was there when he shot it for the first time with the can on and the impact shift was less than MOA.

Well I guess I'm less worried about impact shift and more worried about it changing the accuracy nodes and losing my great accuracy.

I do realize that I will have to do separate load development for shooting with the suppressor.

You will "Not" have to work up a new load, what you will have to do is "Know" the change from can to brake to naked muzzle. That is a requirement if you want to keep your POA vs POI MOA or under, first shot out. I've brakes I've built for my 300wm and .308's and as I am the installer as well, I keep my exit clearances to bullet diameter +0.010 total. The tighter the exit bore the more gas deflected. When changing most anything on the muzzle a shift will happen. If you have done everything correct from a builder/installer point of view the shift will be in the vertical only. Ect, my 22" 308 is POA/POI no added device, add my F/A rated 1.5X10" can you add 3.5IPHY of up no wind shift at all. Add the brake over a naked muzzle add 1 IPHY of up no wind.
The 20".308 3 IPHY up w/the F/A can, brake is 2 IPHY of Down. Every stick will be different, depending, but no new load work up is required.

Cans are somewhat different, if your std load is at the ragged edge of pressure, to start with.

Re: new load with brake swap?

Both me and my son switch between a Ross and a radial design brake on our 260 rifles and have no POI change or affect in accuracy. Another time I had my LR pistol at Thunder Valley shooting at clay pigeons on the 600 yard line with a radial style brake on. Tom wanted to see what one of his suppressors would be like on my 15" barrel in a pistol configuration. Screwed it on and next shot destroyed another clay on the 600 yard line. Didn't affect POI or accuracy a bit.

Maybe some guns are picky but we've not see that in our LR pistols or rifles. Good luck with yours.
