With the President speaking yesterday and leaving it up to Congress to impose a Assualt Weapon and Hi-Cap magazine ban on the Federal level, will the price on these items go back to normal levels or will they drop even further? It does not appear the Senate is overly concerned and very likely not enough votes to pass it there and for sure not in a Republican led House. There have been people buying rediculously high AR's, AK's, and every hi-cap mag which could be bought. Lots of people bought them that never wanted one before and will probly never shoot the one they bought. In the sad state of NY, lots of hi-cap mags will be stored discreetly, but lots and lots will hit the market before their ban takes place. Does anyone else see the bottom coming on assault weapons and Hi-caps? krw

Re: Assault weapon and Hi-Cap mag prices

I'm no economist or sooth-Sayer, but I think a return to "normal" will not be seen for some time. Sane levels in about twelve months when the back orders and cancellations go through, but you won't see anything close to regular until after the pending legislation has been officially shot down or shelved.

I'm hunkering down, grabbing deals where I can on stuff I want, but I'm not paying any crazy prices for anything. I have ammo to last, just got the parts for a new upper at normal prices, and it helps that I'm overseas for the next few months anyhow. The rest of you can just take winter off and hopefully ammo will be back in stock when it thaws out.

Its far from over at this point. And the anti gun left just made their intentions official. I would expect to see the prices rise again, unless the price panic buyers are willing to pay has fully peaked.

Re: Assault weapon and Hi-Cap mag prices

IMO - Congress does not have the votes needed to pass the AWB or high mag ban right now. I think the manufacturers will increase production and get more products into the market while they battle this in Congress. The prices at highly rated dealers will be "normal" for the most part.

The Left has made their agenda publicly known, so now its up to all of us to continue our letter writing campaign to counter the laws they want to push through!

Re: Assault weapon and Hi-Cap mag prices

I was at a local gun shop yesterday after this was all announced and overheard several of the clerks saying this meant prices were going down and all the trade-in ARs coming in just lost half of their value from the day before.

Just what I heard.

Re: Assault weapon and Hi-Cap mag prices

I should preface that by saying there was a gentleman trying to trade in an old SP-1 and wanted waaaayy more than it's "usual" value.

This. The deals are still out there to be had. I've had my build planned for a long time and refuse to pay the crazy prices being garnered right now.

Re: Assault weapon and Hi-Cap mag prices

It would be a good idea to make sure we have our hi-cap mags due to future bans that could take place.

Re: Assault weapon and Hi-Cap mag prices

Definitely a good idea to get them when you can, that way you're not scrambling when they're threatened.

Re: Assault weapon and Hi-Cap mag prices

We've had years to buy stuff at a normal price, and I've already bought what I truly wanted I suppose. It's not like we didn't know SOMETHING like this wouldn't happen eventually. I refuse to go into a buying frenzy of overpriced crap. I HOPE it goes back to "normal", and if it does, I'll buy my normal stuff again. Only thing I'm missing right now is powder variety, which hasn't gone up in price much thankfully... Just hard to find.

It is what it is I suppose. We should do what we can to prevent more slap-in-the-face politics from taking away more stuff, but you shouldn't go into debt grabbing things at a 50%+ markup!

Re: Assault weapon and Hi-Cap mag prices

Today on SH classifieds, NIB Colt 6900's, $1150 shipped. And down comes the prices. AR's and AK's coming down but oddly enough Mini-14's holding their higher price. Will be interesting to see 30rd Pmag pricing in 3 months. krw

I'm spending my time letting everybody and their mothers know not to vote for Biden when he makes a run for the presidency in 2016

Re: Assault weapon and Hi-Cap mag prices

Don't forget that action at the federal level is only part of the issue. Individual states are busy cooking up an unbelievable amount of ill-conceived, mis-directed, knee-jerk legislation. Some states will be more than fine. Others, not so much. Un-constitutional laws passed this year will take many years to reverse, if ever, especially if the Supreme Court changes composition before those cases percolate to the top. Just look at how New York tossed it's citizens rights away, practically over-night. California is very busy trying to make it even more difficult to be proficient at defending yourself, to enjoy shooting sports, or to hunt.

It may be that a lot of rifles and mags will be leaving CA, diluting the market later this year.
