the Butler Creek flip open style?

I'm looking for something (if it exists) other than a flip-open or bikini cover scope lens protector. I'm finding the rear one is either in the way of my turrets, or the bolt handle when I open it. I've cut my thumb open during rapid fire in a comp and am generally just tired of the thing.

Bikini covers either come completely off and are prone to getting lost/left behind, or if zip-tied to the scope body, are in the way too.

    Looking for other ideas, thanks.

There really isn't a good solution. I use BC caps on some scopes and bikini covers on others, but they all suck. Glass is expensive, so you have to use something. I've thought about some kind of peal off covers like race drivers use if anybody wants to run with that idea.

The only thing I will occasionally use on my scopes is a kill flash. We have a few in our armory or we just make one in the field when needed.

Modern quality scopes have very good coatings, when they get dusty just blow them off and occasionally brush them. Now if you are some OCD type and obsess over every speck on an optic, I can't help ya!

I do have a killflash on the front. Shooting here in the west and in comps, the rifles and optics can get filthy. I've not tried Tanabrex...do they flip all the way over and lay on the scope (i.e. rotate 270 degrees) or just flip up like the BC's?

I"m not so much worried about the front, but more so the rear lens. Does someone make something like they have on NV for rifle scopes...like this?

Not exactly lens covers, but related.
All high end camera lenses are threaded to accept filters. I have installed "skylight" filters on these lenes to protect the glass, but noticed that rifle scopes don't have this threading. Would be nice to be able to install a clear filter lens on the front, kind of a sacrificial piece of glass.
And a rifle scope objective lens is going to take much more abuse than a camera lens.

Anyone know why manufacturers don't do this?

This seems like a $1 million idea!

tenebraex flip by 270deg so that they nicely align with the scope

Kowa makes covers for their spotting scopes, wonder why nobody has done this for rifle scopes?

They're awesome. They protect your scope from water, dirt and banging around. They're on and off in no time, and they're relatively inexpensive. I've been using mine for over a year. It still looks new.</div></div> What I prefer too. COfox, it's like the socks we always used in the STA Platoons, only much better in the elements.

I use a combination of Scopeoats and ARDs, Butler Creeks suck, they seem to break all the time now. In comparison, the flip up caps I got with my M4 Aimpoints seem indestructible.
I've had good luck with the 3-9X36 Loopy with the OSTI ANPVS-22, the ARD doesn't seem to decrease the image substantially.
The flip up cap for the PVS-22 broke early on, haven't bothered to replae it. Glass seems tough, dust it (and the scopes off), clean with camera lens cleaning solns.

Leupold offers screw in filters and screw in caps. So clear filters would be a good idea for protection but not dust or snow like conditions.
