Using 1 scope for mulitiple bolt guns

Hey fellas,

Kinda new to the long range shooting and looking for advise on something. I am aiming to use my one decent scope and be able to move it from my Rem 700 Tact, which currently has a 20 MOA Rail to a FN with similar rail. What scope mount and rings would make my life easy with switching the scope out.

Thinking a good one piece with throw levers. Ideas for something reliable?

For a precision rig I'd skip the levers, unless you literally plan on swapping rigs daily. Stick with something that bolts on tight. The best going (IMO) is the SPUHR one piece mount.

Keep in mind having to re-zero every time you switch will get a bit annoying. It's a good temporary solution, but be saving up for a second optic.

VTi just saved me a bunch of typing. However, I will add "What's your scope/ring budget"?

If you're thinking a $3,000 scope I'd recommend two $1,500 scopes, switching them is a pain in the ass. If you're thinking a $500 scope then unlikely you'll want to spend $400 on the Spuhr. In that case get some used Seekins rings for $100 and rock on.

The problem you'll run into is sighting in every time you go from gun to gun...hardly worth the effort.

But if you're not going get a scope per rifle, look up Picitinny quick detach scope mount and you'll find several available.

already done this...huge pain. Get two good scope mounts, one good scope for the goto rifle and an inexpensive scope for the other one.

You fellas are pretty darn quick on the responses. Much appreciated. Will take the advise.
For info, it certainly is not a $3000 scope, but I do like my new Vortex Viper PST and would like to get as much use from it as I can.

I would use ONE gun untill you can get the second scope.

Any quality rings will work. Just swap them, and take note of the POI shift between the rifles.
Then dial and shoot.

I haven't used any throw lever mounts yet, so no comment there.
I'm using regular seekins rings.

i have 2 Bushnell Elites 10x40 in the safe for just this situation. i get a rifle and want a nice scope but can't afford it. so i throw the Bushnell on the new rifle until the money is save up for the nicer scope.

can pick up a Bushnell 10x40 for around 130 bucks and it'll get you shooting until you pick up the $1200-3000 scope you have your eye on.

The time and money spent re-zeroing makes purchase of another decent scope VERY inexpensive.

I have been doing this for awhile with my leupold VX-III between my LR260 FNA3G and my custom savage 6.5-284. Its really very simple. I have the leupold tactical rings and as far as some sort of QD mount i dont think its worth it. It is very easy to remove and place on another. Once you do this once between the rifles you are switching it between and record the adjustment it should never take more than 5 rds to rezero between rifles and no more than 5 min from start to finish. From my experience anyway.

Thanks again for the tips. Lots to learn in the bolt gun world. Fortunate to have a nice 1000 yard range close by.
