New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

We finally have the prototypes for our integrated rail action, named SPECTRE. They will be available in short, medium and long, but the only ones currently in work are shorts. They currently all have the AIAW cutout. I was our thought that anyone getting this action will use detachable bottom metal anyway. We have a DBM that matches the cutouts perfectly and feeds the AICS or AIAW mags great. The handle is straight on this one too. The headspace/tenon is the same as our other actions and a Rem 700 so it will fit all Remington stocks. The lug is not integrated in this one. We made them that way so the standard barrel and stock slot locations could be used with a lug width of your choice and type. The integrated rail is 20 MOA. They should be shipping in the next few months and we will have one at Shot to show off. Price is expected to be about $1100 retail in small volume purchases.

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

The 60 degree bolt throw reduces the amount of angular travel dramatically and makes the handle lift much harder to pull back the firing pin. The big bolt body actions negate some of that affect, but big bolt body actions dont fit into rem stocks because the trigger is too low. 3 lugs have these issues. We have a Sako 85 style small bolt 3 lug we built a while back. The bolt handle was hard to lift and the magazine systems are hard to come by. There is not room for feel lips either. The trade offs to get to a 3 lug or 60 deg lift just aren't worth it for most people.

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

Very nice! Still wish it had the integral lug though, but that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. I see one of these in my future.

are the bolts a one piece design?

All of our bolts are now one piece. The Lapua and 408 are also as the current stock finishes out. There is nothing forged or cast in any of our actions. It is ALL BILLET.

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

Very nice work Jerry. I was wondering if: 1)the bottom of the action will be round or faceted, and 2)Will you be offering faceted lugs to match the contour of the action sides.

Thanks for sharing the pics early,
Mike

Good question, I second that. Also will the lugs if you offer them be pinned in place to make for an easy switch barrel set up? Nice looking action!

Yes, pretty please. Yea i know thats called kissing ass but sometimes it works. Very nice action and like the shroud on the back as it matches the action. Nice to see a medium action is also in the works as i think they will sell like hot cakes. So are you going to be making a DBM for the medium action?

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

Like on all of our actions, the lugs are pinned. The lugs are standard round. They match the barrel contour versus the action. The bottom of the action is faceted. How many remains to be seen. Probably every 15 or 30 degrees. They match all the chassis stocks currently out there I think. A round McMillan etc will take a very minor amount out, normal for bedding anyway.

Not at the moment. No good magazines out there.

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

Great looking action Mr. Stiller. Good addition to an already solid lineup. Have been eyeing a cobra for myself for the next build.

Is this basically a TAC 30 with an integrated rail and faceted profile?

Please, do a left handed "Group Buy" looking to build another rifle this year and would like another Stiller Action to match the one I have...

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

We dont run the actual group buys. Randy has run a few of them and Jeff and Chad ran the last one. Maybe they will want to do one again. We will have to see what they think.

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

Oh it sounds like the pretty please may pay off. Will just have to wait and see and keep a close eye on how this is going. I have this action dancing in my mind going in and out of different stocks.

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

what a good looking action! Thanks for sharing and I would be REALLY interested in a group buy, just food for thought. I understand where you stand but I can speak for a couple of us, we want then! PLease think about it a little bit, thanks, and happy new year!

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

Hoping for a group buy now that shot is over...

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

man oh man, if you were to integrate a lug, i'd be all over this. I'm thinking i still might need one anyway. Looks Great.

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

I ogled this action at SHOT. It is a VERY nice piece.

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

Jerry,

What cartridges are the action lengths suited to? I assume the short action is .308 length... What about the medium and long?

Also, can they be had in your beadblasted stainless?

Are there any hunting type magazines that will work? Maybe HS Precision or standard BDL bottom metal?

Thanks,

John

Re: New Integral Rail Action From Stiller PICS

Don't think I have to tell you how I feel about this. Great job. Hope to own one some day.

Jerry,
Will this drop into a v-block chassis like the Whiskey 3 with no mod's. I was leaning towards a Tac 30 for a build but really like the integrated rail and octagon shape of this action.

What will be the bolt clearance (tolerance)? Will the finish be that of your TAC line? Can I recommend a better sticker with your actions (my only beef)? My sticker is not representing very well only after a week!

maybe they threw it back up on the drawing board to throw one of the super popular integrated recoil lugs on there last minute. if your making a new action with cool new features it might as well have one of those too. everybody else is going that route, do want to be the last one to the party ;)

This action fits AICS and AX chassis systems PERFECTLY! Really like this. Appear to need very minor mods to Rem 700 inlet Manners & McMillan stocks.

Sorry for he crappy pics. Best I can do right now; typical busy Monday!

$1295 with integral 20-MOA base, pinned lug. We received the first ones off the production line. If you are interested in one, give us a call.

Have you completed any builds on one? Do you see any performance advantages over a TAC 30?

Is there a performance advantage to having a separate recoil lug? Since the action is already not round and is quite expensive, I can't imagine saving a couple dollars of machining time was the reason for not integrating the recoil lug.

The angles matching the V-block in an AICS seems like a really good idea. Will more contact (and the inability of the action to rotate) give any advantages with milder cartriges (like .308 and below)?

I would want to buy one because they make sense, but they are quite a bit more expensive than a TAC 30, which supposedly already works very well.

Between the V-Block bottom (and my AICS stock), the integrated rail, and the AW bottom metal capability, I was sold on the Spectre, and already bought one from Mark. I can't wait to see the end result! Thanks Mark!
