Hey guys,
I found myself needing to add a muzzle brake to my F\A Israeli HB FAL. The threads on the FAL are 11\16x24 male (it threads into the barrel\bipod mount) and I want to use a 5\8x24 JP Ent. brake. Any machinists out there willing to take on a project like this? Thanks for any help or direction>
Dave

Re: Thread adapter needed

I wouldn't bother with a thread adapter personally. What I would do is modify the least expensive part (the JP brake). The minor diameter of an 11/16-24 thread is from 0.642" to 0.6494"* for a class 3 thread. For a brake you could easily use the class 2 specs for which the minor diameter is from 0.642"-0.652"*. The point of this is that the major diameter of a 5/8-24 thread is 0.625" which is smaller than the smallest portion of the 11/16-24 thread. That means you can have someone bore out the 5/8-24 threads and then thread the brake to 11/16-24. No adapter needed.

Re: Thread adapter needed

Yeah but, you need the tap first. You only need to find someone with a lathe to do the barrel.

Re: Thread adapter needed

Of course there are, that transition is done all the time.
Dogwalker is spot on.
Call Mark and know you are getting the best there is.

Re: Thread adapter needed

like everyone else has said, bore and rethread the brake and forget about the adapter. Most machinist have a single point internal thread cutting tool that they have done some grinding on to make fit into a smaller bore so the problem of tap (not that expensive either) isn't a concern. Jeff

Re: Thread adapter needed

Hi guys, thanks for the replies but the issue i have is that the Izzy flash hider is 11\16x24 MALE thread; so, with the JP(or any other) brake, there is a female-female thread interface issue i have to overcome. Again, thank you.

Re: Thread adapter needed

Do you have the material to remove the male threads and counterbore and thread 5/8-24. Some pictures with caliper dimensions would be great.

Re: Thread adapter needed

So Dave. You have 11/16 male threads on your barrel and the threads on the brake are? I reread the post and looked at the picture you sent and got confused(Go Figure). The flash suppressor you sent the picture of had male threads of which thread pitch? Just rying to help out.

Re: Thread adapter needed

Dave,

Call the number I gave you above. Have an adapter made as you need a Jp unit on that barrel as much as a fish needs a bicycle. You can get it mounted, play with it until you set it aside and still have the means to mount a can.

Lighter barrel, subsonic at 75 yards. Even with a clean cold barrel first round, you can do sub moa. Hey, these are FNs, anything constantly yielding sub moa with subs is great.

Re: Thread adapter needed

Hey everyone, thanks a bunch for the effort and replies. I did meet a machinist that stumbled into my buddies gun shop last night, showed him what i was looking for (cause the gun is there and the form 4 is at ATF), he made a quick sketch and said - no problem. Again, mucho thanks
