Greetings everyone. Just wanted to share what I recently purchased and was wanting to get opinions on. Please let me know what you think. This is my first "sniper"/tactical type bolt gun I've ever bought. I just didn't think I could build one for the price I paid and had been wanting a Rem 700 in 308 for a while and I loved the stock. Here is the description as it was written:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">This is a Remington Model 700 VTR. The triangular design is lighter but offers the rigidity of a bull barrel. This barrel offers 5R rifling.

Tactical bolt knob added.
Three pound timney trigger added.
Speed lock firing pin added.
Seekins Precision bottom metal added to accept accuracy international (aics) magazines (available in 5 or 10rd).
Bell and Carlson a-5 tactical stock with adjustable cheek comb and length of pull added and inletted for seekins bottom metal.
Comes with steel 20moa tactical scope mount.
AICS 5rd magazine included.
Original stock. Original firing pin. Original trigger. Original bottom metal all included.</div></div>

Personally, the only thing I'm not sure of is the barrel. I might end up changing that out one day. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome!

First, it's not a "sniper" rifle unless you're military or civilian trained. Some people here get bent outa shape for that term.

Second, nice boom stick. I started out with that same stock and just didn't like it. I went to a McMillan and now I'm going Manners T4A. See what you like and go from there.

Third, shoot that shit outa that barrel to get experience and then swap it out for something good. I have a Rock Creek barrel that shoots damn good.

Have fun and shoot it like you stole it.

Thanks for the replies.

Ghogs, I'll keep you in mind if I do. I've never had anything in bolt beyond a Rem 700 30-06 with standard wood stock. So, this is a new venture.

J Blaze, Sorry about calling it a "sniper" rifle. I guess I'd have to be trained and shooting at people from a concealed place to use that term. Thats just how us dummies refer to that "look".

I looked at the Manners T4A just a few minutes ago and it looks very similar in shape to the Bell and Carlson a-5. I'm just curious what more you are looking to get out of it, comparatively speaking?

I'm definitely excited to shoot it and yes... I'm concerned about the barrel too. I've read a bunch of mixed results about that triangle barrel.

Thanks again for the comments.

had a 700 vtr pretty much the same except with a b&c medalist style 3. It liked the 168 amax with varget, now is getting a new tube and coming back as a 6.5 creed.

Nice! I do like that 6.5 creedmoor round. Would you happen to know if the same magazines in the AICS 308 work with a 6.5 creed? This might be the direction I go in the future.

Well I still can´t see a reason for that barrel contour other then to make the laser etching easier...

Yea... no idea about that barrel. Even if I replace it, I think I got a good deal regardless. Or maybe I'll keep this gun a while and sell it when I'm ready to upgrade. This is the first gun of this type/style I've ever bought.

Not a bad looking rig personally I am not a fan of the triangular barrel but to each is own. Does it shoot good what kind of group have you got out of it? if you have shot it yet.
