macon, ga
so i get a wild hair up my ass, and decide to go to bass pro shops and get a pound of hodgdon varget. i kept hearing how great it was, and how it would be the most accurate powder for my .308 bolt gun. i drive over there, a 25 minute drive, and go over to the gunpowder isle, and it looks like the milk section of kroger when they predict snow here in macon, ga. they had some black powder subs, and about 2 or 3 containers of smokeless powder. the handgun display was just about empty, and forget about any magazines. it sucks....sorry, just venting

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

I hear you, is the same up here in PA. My local shop looks like an Old Navy store on Christmas eve ... no powder, no primers, a few odd caliper bullets, rifle wracks are sparse, handgun cases are empty. Is very frustrating.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Yep same here. I am having to start new load development because I can't find the powder I want to use but use the powder I can find.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

I passed on the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale gun shows these past two weekends because I didn't want to deal with the sight of overpriced stuff. The GF and I drove past the Bass Pro in Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday and I figured 'why bother?'.

I'm pretty well supplied and don't 'have to have' anything right now, so I'll just wait a couple of months and see what shakes out.

Now's not the time to be looking for reloading components, even if price isn't a concern.

Live and learn.

Chris

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

I quit going to gun stores. I just call or browse online. Stop buying stuff for now, everyone is price gouging!

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Bass Pro looks like it's going out of business here. Forget their overpriced powder or primers, they were gone a month ago. The handgun case has nothing left but SAA type revolvers. Plenty of shotguns though. 22lr gone, .223 gone, 7.62 gone. Just bare shelves. Local reloading wholesaler says he won't have any more powder for at least 10 more days. Forget trying to find reloading components. I had to go to 4 different places trying to find a .223 shell plate. It's babnanas out there.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Personally, I find comfort in the obvious fact Americans want to be WELL ARMED...

Those that didnt have armaments want some, and those with armament want more.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

I hate that I can't find anything, but take solace that my fellow Americans want to armed.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

It surprises me how many folks didn't stock up on powder/primers right about the time the media started blasting Romney about the "47%".

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Walk into local gunstore and buy last pound of Bullseye. Look around and see a class of 20 ladies getting ready to take a CCW class and the gun shelves empty, it just made me grin from ear to ear.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Here in Central PA most mom and pop shops have all the supplies need to reload. Walked in yesterday for primers and they asked me ho many 1000 I need. I said only need 1000. Plenty of powder and multiples of them.
Cabelas is 2 hrs away, Bass Pro is 1 hour away, but I don't like giving money to big business for reloading or gun buying. With in a half hour of home, I have 6 gun shops and 2 Walmarts.

Exactly my thoughts. If one thing comes from all this is people are well stocked and there are more gun owners than ever before. Nothing wrong with that at all!

I just hate that a few want to profit by gouging the people willing to protect liberty.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

i really dont have a "need" for anything as i have been collecting guns and reloading supplies for the last 30 years, but i like to try some new powders every once in a while. will just have to use what i have and keep an eye out for it when things quiet down

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

pisses me off

i got back into firearms in the last year. got into reloading big time.

i have enough to last me a while, but maybe not until i can get some more.

little will get through congress, certainly nothing that prevents obtaining reloading supplies, at least not until the dems take back the house. but nevertheless, manic panic has set in and those of us who only keept 1000 primers and eight lbs of powder around are sucking wind.

me, it pisses me off, and im a little pissed at the folks who are buying up everything like the apocalypse is coming. it aint except for a very unlikely large cap mag ban. i can see buying up p-mags, ars, bulk 223 and 308, but reloading stuff?

sheese.. maybe i need to get a black powder buffalo gun cause that looks like the only thing left on the shelf.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

I live in a rural area of NM and every time I pass through ABQ I pick up powder, primers etc. Thankfully over the past few months picked up several K of primers and pounds powder which has allowed me to accumulate some inventory to keep me reloading. Went by there yesterday and the shelves were bare. Powder Valley and Sinclair has limited supplies of powder and ordered several pounds from each. Hate to pay the Hazmat fee but better than not having any.

On the flip side, it is a good thing there are more firearms owners each passing day which will make it more difficult for the anointed one to get his legislation through.

Not to get political or anything, but food for thought:

EPA could determine some of the combustion byproducts of cartridges are "pollutants" and need to be regulated - the same way they did for CO2 5 years ago.

Department of Transportation could reassess the hazard of powders and primers being transported, and make things very difficult. As it stands now, the DOT only allows something like 200lbs of hazmat in a truck at a time. What do you think would happen if that was decreased to 5lb?

Lots of things can happen without Congress.

Ever hear of "death by 1000 paper cuts"???

Let's not forget individual states have a lot of leeway in making their own legislation - as NY has recently shown.

Respectfully....

It's not gouging it's hoarders.

I work part time in a gun store and I see it every day. Yesterday a man bought the last 10 of our Pmag rebuilds @ 60$ apiece (hahahaha), he spent half the time bragging about how many he already has and the other half complaining about the price.

I'm not even going to talk about how much rack-grade AKs and ARs are going for.

Crazy crazy crazy.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

I live 30 minutes from the Bass Pro in Macon and I'm glad I haven't needed to go out and try to find anything at the big stores. Tough to find anything right now.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Local Cabela's got a truck in on Monday. They were sold out of ALL items by noon.

Guy in front of me picked up the last 2x 1# cannisters of H4395.

yes i realize that, and things like EPA could shut down ranges due to lead exposure. i've seen similar with re-furbing old houses that have lead paint. The things you have to go through if you have lead paint in an old house are tough and they can shut you down and impose heavy fines if you dont use the correct abatement procedures.

but i dont think any of the above is going to happen. perhaps someday. and hopefully i'll be gone by then. like i said in my post, the current issues will impact semi-autos that take magazines AT MOST and very likely not even that.

so the panic buying of reloading stuff is simply over the top. and for use new reloaders who havent experienced this before and have been caught out, discouraging because it can shut us down if we cant get components. and it aint the gov currently that is causing this to happen, its the firearms community itself.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

I just hope I have enough Varget to get me through this madness! I bought 1lb from a local small store just to add to my keg. But now I am just going to sit tight. Had to drive all over hell and back looking for 9mm ammo for a class this weekend.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

I always wanted to try some blackpowder loads in my 45Colt maybe now is the time.

The run on reloading supplies sucks, its not just components, its tools too, took a while to find a set of 9mm dies the other day, on the plus side if more people take up reloading maybe more of the stores here will carry supplies.

I don't care much for Gander Mtn but I wish they carried some here, they are doing brisk business but don't seem to be having too much trouble keeping the counter and shelves full. Allot of the locals are getting mighty thin.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Got an email from Natchezz last night, they have .223 Federal ammo in stock.

Might have to mortgage your left nut to buy it, but it's there.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

our local gun shops have had a steady supply of powder and primers for us

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Nobody in the Denver area has anything. I usually buy powder local and save the hazmat fee. Brownells had Varget in stock for like a day, I paid the hazmat fee.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

There is a shop about 5 miles from my house that has supplies. I bought 7 pounds (4lbs Retumbo and 3 lbs H1000) on Monday. I just got back from there with 1000 GM215M primers a few minutes ago. If anyone is near Lexington, KY let me know and I'll hook you up with the location. They are out of Retumbo, but they had some H1000 left today and they also had quite a bit of Norma MRP on the shelf. They opened a new case of primers to give me the box of 1000 so they have a few more thousand of them. They also have some regular 215M primers as well. They have some CCI primers, but I didn't check to see which.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Olds, if your talking about the "new" Bass Pro shop (i haven't been home in a few years) thats not too far from 75, then you're better off finding somewhere else. I went in there looking for dies for .308 and they didn't have any, went in there looking for rings the same day, none, let alone anything else I needed (brass, primers etc) my father-in law constanly complains about that place, but then again there are not too many places near macon or WR for that matter. If you can stand the drive, there are a few places in Perry (one of which is right off of 75 for that matter) that might have a better inventory.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Been getting info from this site for a few years now I should probably give back a little. thirdgenerationshootingsupply is showing powder and some primers in stock.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

I stopped in a local shop yesterday that usually has a good selection of reloading stuff. The ONLY thing they had left was 3 cans of Bullseye, 10 boxes of Federal primers, and 1 bulkpack of 500 6.5mm SMK bullets. No cases, no other powder, no other bullets. Not even bags of lead for the shotgunners... Fun...

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

I went to a local shop in Erie, PA last weekend, and found all the primers I could wish for. I stocked up---bought only what I have brass for---and was very pleased.
I am glad that people are taking this BS from Washington seriously, as we must be armed. It is frustrating now, though, as I feel that I didn't start soon enough. I spent last year getting the delivery systems up, and not enough on the components.
Keep looking, try local shops and online. Sometime it will level out.

Re: this is getting old real quick!!!!

Its very frustrating!!!!!! I understand why people are hoarding the stuff, but.......what about us guys who actually go out and shoot regularly? Crampin' my style!!!!!!!! I need to load about 70 rounds for a match in a few weeks and then I will be out of 175 SMK's........Guess I'll cross that bridge when I run out.

I feel for your plight. Advice, start padding your post count, just be cival, not annoying, once you hit 100 posts you can post in the want to buy section for your bulets.

If we've learned anything from happened after Dec 14th, that there is some total douchfucks around here, and some very standup ordinary folks who'd help anyone out in a pinch. So keep the faith.
