Looking for a good stock recommendation

I recently purchased a Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD and want to get a well built light weight tactical stock for it. I am planning on adding a Badger Trigger Guard and maybe a Jewell trigger. At some point I will also add a Badger bolt knob and a muzzle brake, but don't plan on dumping TOO much money into the rifle. I may have the action trued and will definitely get the receiver bedded.
Anyway, I was thinking of the McMillan Light Tactical, one of the HS Precision Tactical stocks or a Bell & Carlson Tactical stock. One of my concerns is weight, so I would like to find a nice light weight stock. Any recommendations?

I am sure the other guys can better chime in as to a solid, light stock...but, I can tell you one to stay away from (since you said "light") is the B&C A5 Medalist...I have it on my SPS TAC and, while I love it, it is anything but light...just a heads up.

I have a Manners mcs-t on my aac and love it. The carbon fill is about 2 lbs. Not ultra light but def not heavy. Can get it inletted for whatever bottom metal or just get it with the mini chassis.

Funny you should say that. I have the B&C A5 Medalist on my GAP build and it is a great stock but weighs a TON! Thanks for the reminder:)

I just received my stock from McMillan. Its an A5 with the Edge Technology and it came in at 2.25 lbs. Very nice and very light. Just need to find time to build the rifle. LOL.

With that bbl'd action I would lean torwards the manners with the mini chassis. So future upgrades wouldnt be a problem, bedding and all. If I was getting a gun completely built just how I wanted it I would rather go will a old school bed job but in the fix er upers the mini chassis is nice. I got 2 of em and both have been great. Got one more on the way. Good luck.

I like the MCM A1-3 as far as light-weight tactical stocks go. Don't know if you are attached to the adjustables, but for the non-adjustable, lightweight tactical stocks, I don't know if you will find one that is more versatile as the A1-3, or perhaps a Manners MCS-T3.

Man the McMasters are hard to get ahold of. Do you have to special order them? I have found some Manners stocks that are very nice and are available (in stock, no punn intended), but not so on the McMasters. I have mainly been looking at Stockys Stocks, are is there any other places with large inventory?

Check out the Manners Composite Stocks Elite hunter line of stocks. The EH1 may be listed as a hunting stock, but the stock can cross over and be used as a tactical type stock as well. The stock baselines at 26-27 ounces with a 1/2" pad, and even though it's really, really light, it's incredibly rigid as well.

If that particular stock isn't your flavor, there are many others to choose from, and with 90% carbon fill options can keep the weight down for you.

Check out new Hide Sponsor Whidden Gunworks. The make sevral nice style stocks and he can incorperate the v-block wth or without detachable mag hardware.

One other question: Does anyone have any experience with or input on the AICS 2.0 stocks? I like the fact that they fold and already have the mag receiver built in, but they weigh 7 lbs while the Manners T5 weighs 4 lbs.

I have an AICS and another one on the way now im not lugging them miles when I go shoot but they are my choice of stock.

I would say go with a Manners or an XLR but, you could also do a Mcree or a AICS.

Ultimately, anything mentioned in the thread will be worth it but, you need to decide what's going to fit you best.

I agree, Kevin is awesome. I have another rifle currently for sale that has the XLR stock. It is pretty sweet. Can't believe I haven't got more interest in it yet.

If you want a light weight adjustable stock take a look at the PSE Etac stock. However you´ll need the stock to cross the pond from Ireland.

Haha, you might just stick around. Definitely look into the new Manners "hunting" lineup and 90% carbon fiber fill. I have a T5 90% CF with the mini chassis and it is a great stock but would like to try one of the new ones that is even lighter.

Member Thomas Manners posted a thread about them right before SHOT show. If I find it I will link it here. The Custom search engine here disappeared on me though.

I reccomend any of the manners with the mini chassis. My favs are the T5 or T5A. If you get a fixed cheek comb they will weigh a bit less. You will have a great stock with anything that leaves manners building. Good luck

I agree on the Manners . I have owned three MCS-Ts with the minichassis. Very nice stocks . I am doing a cheap build on my AAC-SD now though and went with the B&C M40 .

I went B&C for my .243 build and wanted something a bit stiffer in the forend for my AAC-SD...

H-S Precision PST086 Pro Series. If you can get past the politics, they make a REALLY nice piece.

I have a savage model 12 chambered in 308. Purchased it new in a bench rest format. Has beautiful wood stock, but it doesn't feel like the most comfortable stock in the world. Just doesn't fit me properly. Any recommendations on a thick for my savage?? Any not to buy for it. I'm shooting f-class this march so any advice would be wonderful. Need to get shooting and set it up ASAP.

I am a fan of the McMillan stocks. Very well made and can be customized in many configurations. However, you will pay a pretty penny. Whatever stock you choose decide on what bottom metal you want and have the stock inletted at the time of perchase. I learned from experience that it is a real pain to send stock back for inletting and it will cost extra.

OK, so I got a deal on a AIC 2 and bit the bullet (GULP). These stocks are described as "self bedding V-Block". Do I need to get the stock bedded or is it good to go? I was going to go with the McMillan but am too impatient.

Stock should arrive tomorrow, Cannot wait to install it and start the build! I also just receive a jewell trigger and am working on muzzle brake. Can't wait!

surprised more people arent talking about this, but stockade stocks fit what youre looking for quite well, they are much lighter than the benchrest stocks, priced cheaper and look great. only downfall is about a 3-5 month wait. check out their website. he has outstanding customer service as well.

I got the stock yesterday and got to look at it a little today and do a little more research on it on the web. MAN, this is an awesome stock! It is like RoboStock the way it is put together, the aluminum skelaton inside and the plasic skins on the outside. I like the fact that you can replace individual plastic skins if they get damaged. I also like the idea that there is no bedding involved because the action lays right on the aluminum chassis. It is built REALLY stout. Now I am going to take after my wife and "accessorise" with some knurled cheek weld screws, a bi-bod and mono-pod, etc.
