Gentlemen,

I am in week 8 of 9 weeks of the Insanity Workout by beachbody.com. I started the program weighing 198.6 lbs. Beginnning week 8 I am down to 186.2 lbs., but have also gained quite a bit of muscle mass. In addition to the workout I have lifted a couple of times per week lightly. I am 40 and my weight has not been this low since my lower 20's. I have adopted the Meditteranean diet as well. With that said, I have always eaten as much as I want and am always "full". My energy, stamina and mood have all improved. I reccommend this program to those that have a base level of fitness, but not where they want to be. The workouts are very tough and start high intensity on the first workout. My advise is to go easy if you feel you are being pushed too hard. PM me if you have any specific question. I have 2 weeks more to go and I plan on doing phase 2 of the workout again for an additional 4 weeks before possibly moving on o P90x.

Re: Insanity Workout

Net loss of about 15 pounds total. It's an excellent workout. Very tough and demanding from a committment standpoint as you workout 6 days per week for 9 weeks.

Re: Insanity Workout

Awesome, nicely done. Did you do a body fat percentage before/after by any chance?

Re: Insanity Workout

I didn't do a body fat comparison. My scales can do it, but I am not sold on their accuracy. Trust me when I say it works though. You work your ass off, but you start noticing differences within a week or two.

Re: Insanity Workout

I did P90X for many years before burning out on it and moving on to Insanity. Trust me, Insanity is a step up from P90X. If you are looking for something more intense, you need to get the Asylum program (also with Shawn T and from Beachbody). It is next in progression and will be what I go to next.

Re: Insanity Workout

By the way, for those interested in how these programs work - When I started P90X about 5 years ago, I went to a local gym and had my body fat calculated. I started at 170 lbs and 18% body fat. At the end of the first time through I weighed 172 lbs and had 8.6% body fat. So I pretty much dropped 17 lbs of fat off my body and put 19 lbs of muscle on in it's place! Since then, I have to be very carefull when going through P90X or Insanuty. I will put on 10 more pounds of muscle in my upper body in the first 30 days. Not a bad thing, except that I compete in trail ultra marathons and I really don't want to carry any more weight when I race. I do what I call a blended program now, where I do Insanity on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday and run on Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday. Gives me a great cross training program & I don't put on all the extra muscle to slow my running down.

Re: Insanity Workout

Great workout but takes dedication and self discipline, if I had this I wouldnt be in need of it

Tell us more about Asylum...

Re: Insanity Workout

Here's the rundown, as far as I know. P90X is 90 days long and is at an advanced high school athletic level. Insanity is 60 days long and is at an advanced college athletic level. Asylum is 30 days long (done every day, no Sundays off like the other two) and is at a professional athletic level. P90X used weights and a chin-up bar. Insanity uses just your own body for resistance. Asylum I believe uses some weights and some sort of a "ladder" on the ground for footwork drills.

Re: Insanity Workout

P90X has more of a strength training component than Insanity, which is more focused on agility and getting lean. P90X has options for the fairly fit to the pro athlete, while in Insanity you do the moves and keep up as best you can.

I think Ironman's observation about P90X being more likely to add muscle bulk is an astute one, and useful in picking which program suits you best. I've been alternating between them, and like both.

Re: Insanity Workout

I have tried Insanity twice and only got through the first month. The first time it kicked my tail but I felt good and was confident I could tackle the second month; so I did the recovery week to prepare for month 2. The first workout on month 2 was way harder for me than the first, maybe I pushed too hard, I busted my body up and couldn't continue.

The second time, I went through the first month, started the second and remembered how bad it sucked and quit. With that said, my hats off to anyone that has completed that program. It is truly insane.

Re: Insanity Workout

I'm glad people are getting great results with insanity. I did p90x about 2yrs ago with great results so last year I bought insanity and was super disappointed I was able to make it through but didn't really get much in the way of body composition results. However my fitness tests consistently increased and my cardio went way up. So my thoughts are if you are training for a marathon or fun run insanity would be great but if body composition is your goal skip it and do p90x. I should add I was in much better shape when I started insanity than when I did p90x so that may have a lot to do with my lack of resuilts. My hats off to anyone just starting who completes insanity like I said I'm in shape I thought the first month was a joke bit month two kicked my ass my knees were swollen up like oranges anyone who says insanity don't hurt your joints is trying to set you up or is paid by beachbody.

If you're in great shape and you start INSANITY your not going to disappear like a ghost...If you have a little to a lot of weight to lose INSANITY will absoluteley work for you. My guess is most people fall into this category. And I am not paid by beachbody. LOL

Re: Insanity Workout

This is sarcasm....I have 5% body fat and insanity didn't get me to 4%. This workout sucks. LOL

Let me give you a breakdown. Let's say you're a 40 year old male that has tacked on 10 to 20 extra pounds and you would like to lose it so the wifey is a little more interested come play time. Do insanity coupled with a purely simple diet of good foods and I flat out gaurantee you that you will achieve your goals. You will bust your ass in the process, but you will get there. If your a ripped 25 year old it's probably not going to make you 20% more ripped. But if that's the case who gives a crap.

If you are out of shape doing any exercise will benefit you however that doesn't mean they are all equal. No exercise routine will make you ripped 90% of fat loss is done in the kitchen. It is a very common miss conseption that working harder is better and will give better results. The ideal target heart rate for fat burn is 65% of your max heart rate so using myself as an example take your age -220 to get max heart rate 220-32= 188 multiply by 65% = 122bpm This is the range that will burn the most fat calories. Now I'm not sure if you tracked heart rate while working out with insanity but I did and my rate was between 175-210 and would fall to around 130-150 during the rest periods. Insanity is an aerobic workout ment to prepare cardiovascular athletes. If want to look better for the wife drop fat and gain some strength than p90x is 100% better choice and will work faster with better results. In closing remember diet is the #1 way to get in shape. Exercise does not replace eating the proper macros. If I had to bet my paycheck I would say more than 90% of your results came from your diet.

Sorry post from my phone and didn't proof read

Re: Insanity Workout

This insanity Workout is looking too good. I am sure that this workout will be very useful and beneficial for you. I never tried this workout so i will try this workout soon. I would like to thank you for sharing about this workout.

Has anyone followed the meal plan? I have some questions about the best way to go about it. Do you just prepare a few days worth of meals at a time? How expensive is it to buy the food?

I havent done the insanity workout just yet but I have the dvds but I have been working out for about eight years and found that the hardest thing to master, is the diet....So hard for me to stick to a diet. My buddy is a body builder and I have seen him plateau but then when he changed his diet and stuck to it, he had massive gains and fat loss. We used to power lift a lot but after high school, I got married and he kept at it. Now I struggle to get my butt to the gym....

Regarding P90, the ab ripper about made me puke the first time i did it.

wife's been trying toget me to do this for some time now. guess I will once house gets back together. (remodel).. tough being married to lady with undergrad in kinesiology and grad degree in nutrition all the while being a southern man who loves fried everything. lol
